Connecting An Android Phone to a 2001 Radio

I hope someone can help here and that I'm not breaking any rules. I revitalized someone else's 6 year old post regarding purchasing a technical piece of hardware that will allow me to use my Android phone with my 2001 premium AM/FM Radio/6 CD player head that has the phone mute button.

Here is the linky to the other thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...ory-radio.html

Can anyone on this forum recommend what I need ... or guide me in the right direction? Thanks in advance, ~ Bugjr ~

Don't worry, you're not breaking any rules...

I really have no idea about connecting a somewhat-new Android to a 2001 radio with "cell phone support".

As someone said in your other thread, I think you're much better off getting a new head-unit and going from there. I put a Pioneer head-unit in my 2001 F250, and wired the adapter myself. You can just buy one retail and it'll be a plug-and-play setup.

Do you ultimately want hands-free with your smartphone? Or just play music?

Thanks for you reply Art. I want to use the existing OEM head and channel my smartphone through it via some kind of Bluetooth interface that plugs into the head's factory "cell phone plug" to make/hear/receive calls through the truck's speaker system. I don't use my smartphone to store or listen to music. If finding the right "interface" device would also allow this ... bonus!

I know there are some really nice, hi-tech entertainment heads available. However, I'm just not interested in those and I've got to believe there exists a simple device I can plug into the back of my existing OEM head to tap into its cell phone circuitry to use Bluetooth connectivity with my Android phone. Not being a techie I hope I expressed all that correctly. ~ Bugjr ~
