Yes they are sd plenums. The worst part about the torquing was I had put the pan in the day before. The goop was set up just enough to be a real pain in the a$$. I went with the black and red to go with the truck. But after I saw your motor I've kinda been regretting the color choice. No turning back now ;)
And was the new goop tougher or easier than 15 yr old goop to remove? For what it's worth, I did find out that acetone is a great remover of that stuff. You can't spray it on for fear of overspray, but you soak a rag in it, then wipe down whatever goop didn't scrape off and you're clean as a whistle! |
Old goop is way easier. It hadn't fully cured yet so it just stuck to everything but was cured enough to make it a pita. Anyway. I got it clean and redid it all.

I made a bit more progress yesterday and today. The rockers are all in as well as the uvch's. I still have to incorporate the wiring from mine to the 9 pin system though.

What are you guys doing to connect the fuel lines from the motor to the frame. Are the factory quick disconnect fittings able to handle the pressure or should I go a different route? |
You'll be fine with the factory QD fittings. Actually, they're better at holding pressure than they are at holding a vacuum, so you're in good shape to use them with e-fuel.

Are the factory quick disconnect fittings able to handle the pressure or should I go a different route? i like the oil cooler paint. was your center tube rusty as anything? mine was, so i blasted it clean on the outside (having taped off the passage holes), then assembled it, then taped off the end cap passage holes, and painted the heck out of the hole thing with black engine paint. hopefully it holds up. and i like your assembly method. i too don't have a press, and rubber mallet was getting me nowhere. a small section of 2x4 and a 5lb single jack hammer did the job for me, though :-) |
Yeah I'm pretty happy with it JP. The oil cooler was pretty bad but the rebuild kit comes with a new one. I tried the mallet idea too with the same results then saw the strap on the floor, a light came on and done. I forgot to put a pic up with the vc's on the other day. It was pretty dark so it didn't turn out to well but you get the idea

Wow. It's been a long time since I got anything done on here. I've been hard at work with barn chores and getting the corn silage in the bunkers and grass baled and in and cover crops seeded. I did get a little bit done though. I've made the fuel lines and marked my up pipes for bellows. I'm going to try to get those accomplished tonight. I'll tack it all together then bring them to a friend of mine to be tig welded. We'll see how much time I have but if at all possible I'd like to start putting the wiring harness on and splice in the sd uvch's. I'll try to get some pics tonight

I took some pics today.
Fuel lines. Done. I reused the the original feed and return lines up the block then went with 3/8" feed lines and 5/16" return on the top of the motor. Mainly just for ease. I realize it won't help with flow with the small ports on and out of the heads. I didn't want to go with rubber line for reasons I'm sure you all know about so I used steel lines and flared it. I hope it stands up to the vibration. http://i1333.photobucket.com/albums/...psod5s9qpz.jpg I got the exhaust manifolds blasted and painted and tacked the up pipes together. I'm going to take them in for welding though. I don't trust my welding for a task like this.
