Steering box problem

I had noticed over the last couple weeks that I was getting play in my steering wheel. And then last week my truck would no longer turn to the left But would turn fine to the right. I put it in the shop and they said something broke inside the steering box. Thank God for extended warranty!!! Has anyone else experienced problems with their steering box in a 2008 F-350 ?

I haven't read of anyone else having failed steering gear, so it would seem to be pretty rare. ESP is definitely something everyone with a 6.4 (or 6.7) should have, but a steering gearbox looks to be ~$300 after core return so not a disaster out of warranty either.

I have a lot of slop in my steering that has came on fairly quick in the last year and it also is less responsive on recovering from a turn...especially at low speeds. granted I do plow with the truck so I wasn't real surprised but I know I stay off the interstates as much as possible until I can get it replaced.

Sorry, you're right, $626 list, $517 online price from:

AutoNation Ford White Bear Lake Parts (previously Tousley Ford Parts)

Yes, a bit pricy for a steering gearbox, then some labor to replace it, replacement fluid, etc. Your dealer and local guy seem to have had reasonable prices, but of course having ESP is even better.

One thing to keep in mind on ESP is the deductible is per repair visit, so if you have to go in for one thing, be sure to have them take care of any other odds and ends that would be covered under ESP so you get them all fixed for one deductible.

Mine went from about a 1/4 turn slop to 1/2 turn slop in about 300 miles on a coast trip, I made a Appointment to get it fixed and it quit turning to the left at all on the way to drop it off , so it Progressed very rapidly and I am very careful with my truck
