Turbo a 360?
Im starting a rebuild of an old 1972 FE 360. Im going to put in a hot cam and a few other mods. But the thought of a turbo to help out in higher rpms crossed my mind. Any thoughts, ideas, or advice? Thanks!

Throw the crank, rods and pistons in the junk pile. Upgrade to at least a 390 crank and rods, with pistons that make enough compression to work with your hot cam. You can go out to 445 with that engine.
Survival FE Engine Kits Your pistons would actually get you 9 to 9.5 compression on the 390 crank and rod, but my bet is they are worn out, which is why I say toss 'em. Even if they are in spec, the ring lands have over 40 years of hammering, so why chance them in a new rebuild. As for the turbo, you won't need it, and even though the 360 would seem to like a turbo, being that it is a low compression engine, the sunken piston and lack of quench would seem to me to invite detonation and make for trouble. |
I've tossed around the idea of running twin eaton m90 superchargers, if nothing else just because it would look cool.
but in all honesty it would really depend on what your plans are for the engine. and normally the higher rpms are not whats normally worried about. |
