Ford F250 V10

I currently have a 2000 F250 with a V10 and pull a 10,000# fifth wheel RV. If I
went to a 2010 or newer 5.4 would I see a big differnce in power and performance pulling the same trailer? I really have liked the V10 but would like to get into a newer truck.

ive had a 01 v10 and a 05 5.4, i noticed an increase in fuel economy and a decrease in take off ability, the v10 and 5.4 are pretty much the same motor minus 2 extra cylinders. i pulled a 32 foot with mine and really didnt have much of a difference except on uphill pulls, hope that helps

Read the TOWING GUIDES

I pulled a 7000 TT with a 5.4. It did OK. I then bought a V10 - OMG!! The V10 truck didn't even know that trailer was there. Skip ahead a couple years and the TT was replaced by a 12,000#, 34 foot 5er. The V10 then did an OK but not great job with hills being what it didn't like - unless you like hearing 4-4500 rpm screaming to maintain some semblance of speed. As noted above, see the towing guides for the truck you are considering. It will, without looking, probably say that it will work but what it wont say how comfortably it will be to drive. But, with that said, if you only pull your 5er 2-3 times a year or to a seasonal CG, that 5.4 may be all you need - assuming that the tow guide will 'allow' that combo

If you are looking for a 2010 5.4, just find ya a V10. The 3v V10 had quite a bit more power than your V10, and substantially more than a 5.4. I believe the 3v V10s had 365hp and 465ft/lbs. A lot more power, and you might lose 2mpgs doing it.

Nothing wrong with the 05 up 5.4 AS LONG AS IT HAS 4.10 GEARS! Even if you get the V10 AGAIN find one with at least 4.10 gears if not 4.30 gears

The 3V 5.4L has close to the same horsepower as your V -10, but you will be down on torque. The lower 1st gear of the transmission makes up for that quite a bit. You won't see any power gains with a 3V 5.4L, but in my opinion the truck will be more than equal to what you are driving now.
