4x4 600 crew build
I started my 600 build today. After collecting parts for the last couple of months we had a break in the weather so I took advantage of it.
Pulled the Rockwell's out yesterday. Going to pressure them and tear them down. A good sandblasting and coat of paint awaits! Does anyone have a good parts source for civilian Rockwell axels? Pics up shortly |

Have you posted this build thread in the large truck forums? They may be better able to help you there. Although I'd like to keep an eye on this build.

I'm excited too! I've been collecting parts for a few months. I'm transplanting the 4x4 gear from my 75 600 to the black 78. Have a 14 drop side military bed for the back. Trying to decide on 46" or 53" Michelins mounted on super singles. Then to give us more room I'm cutting the back half off of my 78 800 crew and welding it onto my 78 600. You can check out my photo album for now. Having trouble posting pics.

First plan of attack is rebuilding and installing the Donner Rockwell axels and Transfer case. I'm trying to keep the truck mobile as much as possible during the process. |
Oops info below.

Red Barn Customs, 2.5 Ton Rockwell Axles, Mud Boggers, CNC Plasma Cut, Yale Mich http://www.easternsurplus.net/duece_spares.html http://www.rockwelloffroad.com/ |
Thanks, looks like eastern surplus has super single rims too

I pulled the axels this week! Getting them cleaned up and starting the rebuild to get them ready for transplant into my other truck.

Ok, so sourcing parts for the Rockwell axels has been a bit of a challenge. The other issue is the suicide wheel set up on the back. Finding a wheel to replace the existing dual wheels seems impossible. From what I've found out the norm with this axel is to cut the ends off and replace them with military axel ends. There are kits available but they are very costly. I have an eaton axel on another 600 but need to determine gear ratio to see if that will work. This axel has the six lug pattern. A third option is that a friend has a top loader military axel available for short money. I know some of you have done this. What are the pros and cons of this?
