Which option did you go with on the 5 Star tune?

Your computer is still learning. It should get somewhat better than you are describing, at least mine did. These transmission aren't programmed to be performance minded. They are programmed to protect themselves. The throttle by wire is very slow to respond sometimes. The tuner really helps this, and makes the transmission more performance oriented.

Is tuning it really that drastic of a difference in daily driving and towing? It seems as if a 20hp gain wouldn't make much of a difference on a heavy truck but everyone I see on here with a tune absolutely raves about it.....

In my experience, tuning a NA engine was a waste and only worth the money on a vehicle with forced induction..... I have a 5cyl VW with a tune that added 15hp and 20ft.lbs and I forgot it was tuned a week after it was done....

I would love to get 5 star tuning on my 6.2 but I keep hesitating for the above reasons. It is quite a bit of $$ for a 20hp gain. Thoughts?

To the OP, I only use my transmission in manual mode at all times so I couldn't even tell you how it shifts regularly.... When it is cold, it shifts hard into 3rd gear 1 time, then it's smooth for the rest of the time its driven....I just use manual mode to keep it in the ideal rev range accordingly for every gear at any speed.... next best thing to driving stick.... when you are driving at slower speeds in lower gears, keep it at 2500-3000 rpm, and it will respond nicely when you touch the gas.

It's been dynoed by a member here of a whopping 5hp gain with the 5 star tune vs stock. I do not remember which tune that was, I'm guessing daily/tow. The driving experience will not be improved with a huge boost in power. It's the much quicker response from the throttle by wire and the improved shift strategies and firmness. It will feel much faster and more responsive. I don't have a tune on this truck yet, but I've had a mustang and two f150's that I have tuned. They all suffered from the same delayed throttle response as this truck and were resolved with 2 different brands of tuners.
