5.4L super hard to start

In an Econoline from 2002 with 158k on it. Battery clicks over and really wants to start, but seems like it gets no fuel. Usually takes a second to fourth start first thing to turn over in the morning. Yesterday at the DMV I could not get it restarted at all. Towed out of the parking lot.

recharged the battery overnight. Only started on the second try. Any ideas? This is a work truck. So i can't afford problems.

I forgot to say that I had replaced the fuel filter underneath driver's door in the last 60 days too.

So, it cranks and doesn't fire? Have you scanned for set or pending error codes?

It could be a number of things, but I would start by checking your fuel pressure, and maybe cleaning/inspecting your IAC.

Also, check the vacuum hoses and fittings for leaks or tears.

The largest number of these no start , or hard start threads, are fuel related.
I don't know why the easiest test is the last one done .
Oh well .

What should fuel rail pressure be at for a 3v 5.4 anyway???

Ran a snapon scanner on tuck last night. No codes present or hidden in history.

Where are all the good can't start threads? I am on a limited basis with a computer downstairs. I found out yesterday after 10 days waiting for an MRI that I have a left lateral tibula plateau fracture from slipping but not falling on the ice in my driveway 13 days back.

Let it run with keys in it locked. Turned it off out of instinct and could get it to restart immediately. Same deal today, ran nonstop for 90 minutes, got home turned off and after 30 seconds wouldn't start back like no fuel.

Started up to move it up on the sidewalk for plowing last night, will see what happens now with it.

Off the top of my head , fuel pressure should be around 35 or 40 psi at an idle .
This is standard for all fuel injected fords , no matter what engine you have , diesel I don't know , may be different .
When the engine doesn't start , press the Shrader valve, on the fuel rail , you should have a generous amount of fuel spraying out , not a dribble .

Since it is a van, will I have to take the doghouse off in the cab to get to it? I only ask as I am on crutches with a broken leg. I try to be on it the least I can.
Especially how I would have to lie in the cab to see it if it is not accessible from the hood.

The FP test port is definitely under the dog house, left side near the back of the rail.
