Lightning vs. Silverado SS vs. Ram SRT/10
 

I realize that this probably has been posted before, but I was just wondering. Which truck do you think would win in a straight up, no strings attached 1/4 mile race? personally, I think that the Ram and the Silverado would be seeing the Lightnings taillights the whole race, but thats just me. The Ram does show some competition though. So what do you think?

As much as I would like to see the Lightning whip their tail, the Dodge will brobably be the quickest until the new Lightning comes out. I can't see SVT letting the Lightning be outdone so I am guessing that the Production version wil be close to what the concept had. As far as the SS, truck trend put one up against the curent Lightning and 1500 Ram 4x2 with the Hemi. The lightning kicked butt, and the Ram and the SS were about equal. I don't remember quarter time but the 0-60 times were upper 6's I believe.

No one has seen the Ram supertruck run yet really, so it's hard to say. But if it's possible to keep traction and control the power of the Ram, it'll be hard for the Lightning to handle. 500 naturally aspirated horses? Wow.

As far as the Silverado SS goes....nevermind. It's more expensive than the Lightning and as the previous post mentioned it still can't even take a standard issue Dodge pickup. It's almost as big of a joke as the new Monte Carlo SS.

Well said. Will be interesting to see what a 2004 4x2 will run with the new 5.4. Probably not quite up to the hemi, but I'd bet on almost a one second improvement, or am I being too optimistic.

I heard that the SS is more like semi-sport than super sport. Its a pretty boy truck, just like the GMC Denali. But the dodge is bringing the heat, however, like AG4.0 said, i dont see john coletti letting the lightning be beat. If all else fails, they could unleash the concept 427 V-10. 590 HP and 500 ft-lbs.

Even if the Ram SRT-10 does smoke the Lightning on the track, I still bet the Lightning would make a better everyday truck. I mean, can you imagine what kind of gas mileage the Dodge is going to get? Single digits I'll bet. Last time I looked, the Lightning was still capable of 16 or 17 miles per gallon on a highway trip. Now days, people do take that kind of stuff into consideration.

Actually, that test was with a Harley-Davidson F150, not a Lightning. Just thought I'd point that out, as it still whooped both the Dodge and the Chevy.

Id have to say the new SS was a let down. I figured theyed supercharge it or somethin. But in the case of a race the dodge would win and he chevy would lose. My neighbor just bought an SS, the truck is a cadillac escalade with a bed basically.

You are right about the truck being a Harley-Davidson. My bad. Could remember reading the article but forgot which truck it was. I was thinking of the lightning because there was a good article about the new concept in the same issue.
The only thing the SS has going for it is AWD so it will still be drivable in the winter and I wouldn't race against it in the rain either.

Unless they unleash the concept lightning, the ford doesn't stand a chance againsed the srt 10. Wait untill these thing start being modded, the viper.srt V10 make huge amounts of power.

I agree that the SRT-10 puts out huge amounts of power, but I am wondering whether or not people will be willing to pay $50,000 for it. That's alot of money for something like that, and the Lightning packs plenty of punch for $20,000-$25,000 less. The SS is just a joke. The only thing its got going for it is the fact that its AWD. 345 horsepower really isn't that much for a truck of its size. With all the time they had to design this truck (and they had tons) I would've expected much more, besides the $45,000 price tag. And on one last note, to quote Truck Trend, what's with the "Hoover vaccumm attachments" in front?

Hoover vacuum attachments are standard equipment on all 2003 GM truck models.

Anything with the bowtie on the front justifies the high price--all show and no go. I think that the Lightning would have the weight advantage over the Ram V-10 plus making the same, if not more power. The Lightning will win unless the Dodge is modified to overcome the weight difference.

That is an EXCELLENT point. That V-10 is huge, as is the truck. The Lightning isn't that big, and 380 horsepower is alot for its size. I agree that the weight difference is substantial.
