shift indicator cable 1991 ford truck

I broke the shift indicator cable on my 1991 ford F Superduty. Does anybody know where I can buy a replacement and how much work is involved to change out the broken one for a new one?

Thanks

I did it on my 97 F250 and wasn't hard at all. Pulled one from a same style F150 at a junk yard and had it installed in less than an hour. Best thing was that it only cost me a few bucks!

You gotta pull the instrument cluster out and the assy. is held in there by 2 screws. It comes out the bottom. The cable is attached to the column by one screw.

Hello and good afternoon.

I had to buy mine at the Ford Dealer.

You have to remove the trim surrounding the Cluster and, if I remember correctly, pull the speedometer.

As I recall you do not have to remove the Instrument Cluster just the clear cover. Also, you have to remove the steering column cover, put the shift lever in low to do this.

On a good note: you can adjust the cable so it is "dead on" the gears and no more half in, half out.

Take care.

Boon

P.S. Once you get started you will see that it is not that hard. On my 87 I just needed a phillips screwdriver and a torx #12.
