Help with identifying rear end
 

Guys. First of all Happy New Year to everyone:-X03
Hope 2014 brings you lots of big fat fendered surprises!
Not sure whether I am being paranoid or not, but can someone verify that my rear end is more or less the rear end that the good Lord (Ford motor co) decided should go under the truck?
I have a feeling it aint original.
I have just taken out of pair of old shock absorbers from the rear end. Brackets have been welded to the axle. See the brackets lower left and right. The shocks are mounted to a bracket directly above them.
Now. On the top of the diff, there are two mounting holes. For what, I know not. Can someone advise? Should there be shock absorbers there at all?
Should I stop drinking right now and sober up?
Am I going mad?

I know I should buy a manual, but there's not much left on this old girl that is original...

I'd say it looks like a Pontiac 10 bolt rear. Possible from a Lemans, Tempest, GTO.

Hi Wayne. Looks like you are on the money there, mate. It didn't look like anything Ford put out, but I wasn't sure. So it may be a ten bolt rear...
Hmmm.

It's a GM 10-bolt. Somewhere on the web there is an ID chart, those small square corners at the bottom approx 5:00 and 7:00 position are specific to that version.

Since you have the triangulated four link bar mounts, it is most likely out of an A-body (Chevelle, Lemans, Cutlass, etc).
