2014 SD w/6.2L..reviews??
 
I am sure this topic has been beat to death but I am new and just bought a 2014 SD w/6.2L. My last SD had the 5.4L and it ran great all the way up to trading in at 128k. I am hoping this newer 6.2L is a good engine,reliable, and good tow power for 3,500lb bass boat. Anyone willing to offer there experiences with the 6.2L now that you got some mileage on it..? Thanks

I don't have my 6.2 yet, it's on order but I think I've read practically everything on the internet and talked to owners in regards to this. That boat will probably feel like a fly in the bed of truck from what I understand.

Your SD towing that 3,500 pound trailer is like using a machete to chop fruit! It's waaaaaaaayyyyy overkill and yes you will be very happy with the power.

Read through this board there are plenty of guys towing 10k plus without any issues.

Just bought a 28' enclosed car trailer last week..... Empty it's almost 4,000 pounds. I can not believe how the truck pulled it. It really did not even feel like was towing anything. Once I get it loaded down with tools supplies and my car it should way in close to 9k.

If your curious look at the thread that has the video of the dually pulling an 8,500 pound trailer to 60mph.

That should tell you everything and put your mind at ease with the capability of the 6.2!

Thanks, I can already tell this motor is quieter and smoother and lots more getup than my 5.4L Triton. This 6 speed tranny although I only got less than 200 miles on it so far is way smooth in shifting. I am like a kid and candy store right now. If the motor/parts are reliable I can see this truck being in the driveway (12 yrs) like my ole SD.

Got a 2013 F350 CC Dually last March with the 6.2L Gas and 4.30 limited slip rear end which has over 12k on the clock now. To date the 6.2L has performed flawlessly. It has plenty of power to tow my 34' 14k lb gooseneck horse trailer. Averages between 8 and 9 mpg towing that trailer at the posted speed limets; 13+ mpg without trailer. Had a F250 with a 6.0 PSD before pulling same trailer and I believe the 6.2 pulls it just as well and without all the maintenance issues of the diesels these days. You won't have any problems pulling that boat for sure - enjoy the ride.

You're going to have to keep looking in the rearview mirrors to remind youself that you have a trailer on, with only 3500 lb trailer. The most I've pulled so far has been 8K, and it was no problem at all.

Thanks, that's why I sold the F150 and went back to a SD. I wanna pull my boat and not have to worry about whose controlling who!!

Pull an 8500lb 34 ft travel trailer and it pulls it amazingly well and I have 3.73's.

I haven't pulled anything with mine yet, but it drives like a dream. 2014 XL FX4 CC with 4.30's. The throttle repsonse is a little slow, but I drive it pretty tame. Sounds great, handles great.

Can't wait to tow the 10,000 lb fiver this spring.

My 2011 has 162000. I had to put a power steering pump on last week. Prolly had to do with it being minus 20 plowing snow.

Wow, you got 162k miles on your 2011 already?? now that's working a truck,, if all you had fail was the ps pump that's pretty good..

Did you have Ford do it? Did they tell you there is a TSB on the repair. I had my 2011 in for a PS failure and the service adviser told there was a TSB on the repair. From my understanding of the matter, there was a redesign of the PS pump. http://www.ford-trucks.com/tsb/fullt...hp?tsb=11-8-14

I got out of a 2012 5.7 Ram 1500 and into a 2014 F250 with the 6.2L 3 days ago. So far, it feels like it is seriously under-powered, but its expected being a less powerful engine in a much heavier truck. Haven't towed with it yet, but I have a feeling I'm going to love the suspension, but be disappointed with the engine.

I only have 108,000 miles. Have you had to do a tune-up yet?

What are you comparing it to,,, your previous Ram?

What exactly makes you feel its under powered?

I personally think the truck runs out pretty good for being as heavy as it is.....I also don't expect it to run like a 6.7 so I am not disappointed. I am very happy with the truck except for the mileage......I wish it was a little better.

Look at the diesels 10 or so years ago....they made much less HP than the 6.2 with roughly 100 more foot pounds of tq. With that being said I cant agree with the 6.2 being under powered.

Now I have not towed my new trailer yet loaded down....I only brought it home empty which was 4k....it should come in around 9k loaded. I will be able to make a better judgment on power soon. However I still feel it has plenty of power for the truck and to do its job. Its just not gonna win a race pulling 10k vs a 6.7
