hard plastic vacuum lines repair
Not that I know the answer to this one, but I tried. The lines are bonded into their respective rubber grommets and at the most heat exposed places so brittle that any bending at all , makes them fall apart. Thanks to the layout of the 7.5liter there is generous room to work around in, but bloody knuckles are part of the experience.(Blood sacrifice to the Gods as I call it). But bending I must, and so the need to mend those things somehow.
First question to all of you: Does anyone know of a repair or replacement kit for these hard plastic vacuum lines? Second question: What solutions have you all come up with, as we are all facing the same dilemma owning 20plus year old vehicles, and the plasticizers long ago vanished into the atmosphere. My solution was to splice the remaining lines with rubber hose, but I`m not to happy knowing that what is left of them can brake at any moment. Not that a vacuum leak will ruin your day, but it`s a nuisance regardless. So lets hear it from you all, what is your solution.:-blah |
There is a god after all
I`m going to answer my own question, and for all of you out there with the same problem, check these guys out: HOSE CANDY.com
If that is not the answer to our quest, and I must thank the guys at BIGBRONCO forum for finding this. AWESOME!!!!! |
Did I say AWESOME?:-jammin

So do those guys have kits or you're just supposed to special order what you want? Can they do the rubber grommets?
I have been repairing my vacuum lines with left over boost tube from a boost gauge install on the diesel and splicing it in with adhesive lined shrink wrap. |
Problem=Solution
Go to their web site HOSE CANDY.com and see for yourself. Maybe a little more expensive then regular rubber vacuum hose, but if use the recommended silicon hose, then this should be a long term fix, that looks great, and makes servicing so much easier. Doing my truck in January.

I replaced all my hard plastic lines with about 20 feet of 5/32 rubber line. Writeup on fullsizebronco about this too.
|
Yes, it`s the quick and cheap way, I get that, but I tend to look long term.If done right, then I do not have to worry about that stuff needing attention again. I will keep a length of this tubing around the house though, until all my vacuum lines get replaced in January.

I replaced my plastic lines with metal brake line, bent to shape, and attached using short lengths of nitrile rubber hose. Also made some vacuum caps from the hose by filling the end with RTV. No more leaks and no more replacing cooked rubber caps.
|
That is also a great solution, but considering how tucked away some of the lines are, especially the ones on top of the block, not the easiest. What if you need to remove them, to get the valve cover off for example? But if it works for you and you have the tools to do it, then all I say is bravo for your inventiveness.

Check out these hose-kits at HOSE CANDY.com. Absolutely the best solution out there if you ask me. A little more expensive but if you ask me well worth the investment.

That's what I was looking at. I only saw universal and mustang kits. Just not sure what I'm looking at.

I do not think that they have a kit for trucks, you just buy your box of fittings and some silicone hose, and you are ready to go. I estimate that it will take me about two hours to redo the whole engine compartment.

7.3 Down sounds like he works for HOSECANDY.com!

Of course I own the Copmpany
I liked the product so much, I bought the company! Remember that one?
I think it was REMINGTON razors or something like that. Seriously though, if some one has a solution to a very common problem like those guys, then i am all for it. I do not mind to rig something up myself, but these guys came up with a solution that is both trick looking, practical and long term, I mean quality. How often do you come across that nowadays? Just look at headlights, all from CHINA( works for a few years, then throw it away, and buy some more. REPEAT) Just bought some belt moldings from LMC for my doors. Out of four pieces, two fit, and two dont fit. Hey 50/50, not bad for $50 bucks(MADE IN CHINA,of course! That maximizes PROFIT, which is all that most companies seem to be concerned about. That is my rant!!!) So yes, I am all for a quality, innovative product, that provides a great solution, to a problem we all face sooner or later. |
