Speed limiter?

How can i do away with that? Can the tire sensors be disabled? Is the warranty affected if disabled?

troverman 03-17-2014 12:30 PM

What do you mean, speed limiter? The top speed governor of like 100mph?

SoYouCanSuperDuty 03-17-2014 09:14 PM

You talking about governor? My Key?

Tuner.

If you blow it up, your warranty will not cover it.

TPMS may or may not disable with tuner.

The tuner won't affect the TPMS. I've raised the Top Speed on mine, the tuner won't allow you to defeat it, I've left the Rev. Limiter alone:-X0A6

TPMS...whats that stand for?

Tire Pressure Monitoring System.. Lets you know when a tire is low. The tuner won't affect that.

On the gas trucks, does a tuner kill the warranty like it does on a diesel?

According to who you talk to. I personally haven't had any issues, but I haven't used the truck as a race car either. Most of the guys I knew that had issues with the diesels, had a tuner, straight pipe, delete kits, etc.. like on the 6.0 diesel, alot of folks tuned them and didn't restud the heads and warped them because the engine couldn't handle the added HP in stock configuration. I run a superchips cortex tuner, you can tweak it to your liking by changing shift points, raising the rev. limiter, etc. I just run a "preloaded" performance tune with a raised top speed. The tuner won't completely defeat the top speed limiter. Not sure what my top speed is now, I just know it won't cut off at 100 MPH.:-X04

Just out of curiosity, why do you guys want to go more than 100mph in a pickup? The F-150 might be OK, but man, a 4-wheel drive Super Duty is not designed to go fast like that. The slightest corner becomes scary if you hit any kind of a bump....

That being said, I'll probably add the 5-star tuner to my truck once the powertrain warranty expires. Not for top speed, but just for better midrange power and to eliminate the stupid throttle reduction until 3500RPM, etc.

I don't have a SD pickup, I'm driving a F150. I don't drive that fast, but there are times I need the speed!

You'll see a big difference in power with the tuner, they really wake your truck up, and you can read / clear DTC's, recalibrate the speedo, mileage tunes, towing, etc. I love mine, not just for the performance aspect.

Right, I see you are driving an F-150 (looks great, BTW). I was just referring to the OP who does drive a Super Duty...

Yeah, I Love the truck, but it's pretty much a pavement queen. Just don't seem right getting her off in the woods! I'll probably trade it later this year for a FX4 with the 6.2L. Wish I could keep it and get a new one, but I can't see that happening. Even with it being a F150, it goes alot faster than I need, it will scare the s**t out of you, the 6.2 in the F150 is an animal, I've completely turned off the traction control one time talk about a "wild ride", won't do that anymore!, can't say for the 250, never driven one with the 6.2. What kind of fuel mileage do you get with the SD / 6.2?

troverman 03-22-2014 08:23 AM

Pretty dismal, usually 9-10 in town, 14 on the highway. These are empty numbers, but winter driving (I keep the hubs locked in all winter which might cost me 0.5-1mpg).

Now that I have 11k on the truck, this summer I expect maybe 11 in town and 15-16 highway.

Is your 150 an Ecoboost or 5.0?
