98 f150 shut down/no start

Gentlemen,

I have a serious issue and need help. Vehicle is stranded on the side of the road (safely) and here's what happened. Driving (normal) 1/4 mile away from the house, motor shut down. Pulled off, tried restart. Motor turns over normally and all gauges work (temp/oil/volt). The only weird thing is that the O/D light on the end of the shift selector stays on even after pushing it on and off. I plugged in my OBDII reader and it will not link with the system. Yes... the ignition is on :p Is this indicative of a fuel, computer, electrical issue? or all the above. Worst case scenario is i have it towed to the shop tomorrow and they diag it. I don't have the proper tools to diag this :( Thanks for the help all!

First , check all your fuses . A no communication error can be as simple as a blown fuse !

Then Check for fuel pressure and spark .

Thanks, I will recheck all the fuses. After pulling off, i popped the Schroeder valve and the fuel just bubbled up. it wasn't a spray like under pressure.

Best of luck ! You should have pressure not " bubbles " Keep us posted .

I have NO idea what happened, but my roomate took me back to the truck, it started right up, no issues and no OD light. Will update if any other issues arise. Thanks for the quick reply!

Hope you find out what the issue was ! Glad you got it going !!

bubbles was lack of fuel. EIther you have a fuel pump problem that causes pump to quite now and then, or you had a slug of water / ice in the line that changed / melted overnight. If it happens again, or even daily test... when you turn the key every morning, do you hear the fuel pump run for a second and build up pressure ?

Swap out the PCM Relay with a new one.

Your symptom can be caused by that relay getting intermittent (as well as other things...)

This would be the first time it's ever done this. I live in Tampa FL, so there's no ice. At least from weather conditions. Yes, I do hear the pump run. I went for a drive this morning and it drove fine and no issues. The thing that bothers me is that when the truck shut off, the OD light came on and stayed on.
