.22 is great for training. The fundamentals translate over to the bigger stuff and it is a lot cheaper to shoot.

That it is Tim. blackpowder is expensive these days. And 12 gauge is only a few bucks cheaper.

archtaan 10-29-2013 09:48 PM

Yup. .22 is like 25 for 500 if you can find it.

fire240 10-29-2013 09:49 PM

That is cheap. Last case of ammo I bought for the shotgun was about 40 bucks or so if I remember correctly. At least I can still get .50 caliber ammo cans cheap from a government surplus place here in Baltimore.

I just ordered 2000 rounds of AR-22 High velocity ammo. It was $84.00 shipped! :)

Cant beat that!

fire240 10-29-2013 09:56 PM

Thats a good price. I have a place or two that I go to that carries my favorite target loads for the range.

archtaan 10-29-2013 09:57 PM

I bet Bass Pro has them for a good price.

fire240 10-29-2013 10:00 PM

They are one of the places I can get it at. Another is Dicks Sporting goods.
This is my usual target load I use from Remington. It is a good load.

Premier Nitro Gold Sporting Clays 2 3/4" shell 1300 FPS 1 1/8 oz 7 1/2 shot.

I don't shop at Dicks anymore after they screwed over the AR manufacturers. Its a shame you dont have Cabelas or Sportsmans out there. Those places rock.

If you ever plan to get a MEC shotgun reloading press, those Rem Nitro hulls are excellent for reloading. Might be something to think about in the future. You can pick a complete setup for less than $300 and reload them for something like .05 each.

fire240 10-29-2013 10:08 PM

I only go there for ammo, and a few cleaning supplies that they usually have in stock for my blackpowder stuff. I wish I had the room to reload the shotgun ammo for the range. Right now I don't have it. When I make cartridges for the muzzleloaders I have to take over either the kitchen table or the dining room table for at least an hour or two.

Get a folding table from Walmart and secure the press to it with C-clamps. You can pull the handle while watching TV.

-That's what I do sometimes. When you are done you can put the whole thing away in the closet or under the bed.

Or something like this, you dont have to have some huge monstrosity to crank out some hand rolls. A few rubber made totes to put the supplies in and it is doesnt take up much room at all.

I do have an old folding table that I use to use for camping and the range that has seen better days for camping but still works good for the range. It holds my ammo and clays when I am skeet shooting.

fire240 10-29-2013 10:23 PM

Tim for the hand made cartridges I do need a good bit of room. Rolling the paper out takes a bit space. Not top mention measuring the powder. The other systems take up less space for sure.

archtaan 10-29-2013 10:28 PM

Just trying to toss out a few options that don't take up a lot of space.

Well, I am off to bed. Catch you later.

fire240 10-29-2013 10:28 PM

Have a good one Tim. Time for me to head home for the day.
