1962 F100 Original Wheel Specs?
 
I know it's crazy, but I just picked up a full set of beautiful dog dish caps for the beautiful truck I just bought last week....and know nearly nothing about either! (I'm just a girl, but intend to learn).

Thing is, I need to know what the wheel/rim specs are for my new obsession so that I can utilize the caps (I was told the caps are from a 1964 pickup). The wheels that came with my new are not original and will not accommodate the caps so I am on a mission to find the right ones but need to know exactly what to look for.

Most sellers haven't a single clue what parts fit! The problem is...neither do most of the buyers.

These hubcaps may have come "from a pickup" but it was not an F100.

B7A-1130-C .. 10" diameter 1957 & 1959 Ford Passenger Car & Ranchero "outie" hubcaps. 1958 is the same, except they're painted red.

These hubcaps will fit your F100, but you'll need "outie" wheels to install them.

"Outie" so called because the hubcap snaps over tabs located on the outside of the wheels center section.

5 lug 5.50" bolt circle pattern 15" "outie" wheels will be found on some 1965/66 F100's, all: 1967/79 F100's, 1967/96 Bronco's, 1975/96 F150's, 1975/2013 E100/150's.

EDIT: Some 1980/83 F100's have 5 lug wheels on 5.50" bolt circle, some have 5 lug wheels on a 4.50" bolt circle.

All 1961/64 F100 2WD's, some 1965/66 F100 2WD's came with 5 lug 5.50" bolt circle 15" (or 16") "innie" wheels and TYPE 1 "innie" hubcaps.

"Innie" so called because the hubcap snaps over tabs located on the inside of the wheels center section. Last year for "innie" wheels/hubcaps: 1966.

btw: 1965/66 F100 2WD's with "outie" wheels came with TYPE 2 "outie" hubcaps. Type 5 wheel covers were an option for F100's, introduced in 1966

Does this mean that I will not be able to use these caps on my truck? I'm sorry that I have no clue...I am trying to learn and will try not to post too many stupid questions as I go. I believe that I have determined that I need a 15" wheel with a 5 x 5.5 lug pattern - but what else would I need to be looking for in order for these "outie" hubcaps to fit on my f100? Any help and/or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Those wheels will come in different widths and it appears you want the widest possible for those tires on your truck now. I'd take a cap with you to the wreckers along with Number Dummy's info and find the widest rims, probably the newest ones on his list.

Thank Uni Moe, now that spring is around the corner I am finally getting back to the truck. I picked up some stock size bronco wheels that will work with my caps and truck and will hopefully be outfitting them with some super sexy wide white walls :-X06

Hi Bill, I hope you don't mind that I am bugging you about this again. I value your feedback as I am just a girl with a love for, but little knowledge of my 1962 F100 Unibody…trying to make my truck look pretty and drive smoothly…you have been very helpful so far on the forums. I have a "stupid" question and hope I don't look like too big a clown for asking... I finally have the new wheels on and painted, I have attached the caps to the rear wheels but can't get them to fit the front due to the "knob" thing that is on it and in the way…??? Can you tell me what that thing is, what's it's purpose and whether or not it can be removed?

Thanks Bill, you are absolutely correct. Now that I at least know what the "protrusion" is, do you know if it can be removed or replaced with a modified cap or if one is necessary at all?

Nevermind Bill - with some quick research, I think that I have found my answers! Thank you for telling this silly broad what that thing was though :-)

1962 F100 wheel Specs
 
hottpepper, You have a very nice looking truck. I have one just like it but it is tan and white. I had the same problem with my stock caps after a Speedway disc brake upgrade. I had a machine shop cut a set of 1/4" wide wheel spacers, but I also needed to remove the dust cap and cut the ridge off (about a 1/4"). There is just enough of the cap left to reinstall it, and when the hub cap is installed it will also help keep the cap in place not that it is needed just because its close. If you were to use a 1/2 spacer, you wouldn't need to cut the cap, but you would have to replace the wheel studs with longer pieces. One last thing There is no such thing as a stupid question be a male or female! The only stupid thing to do is not to ask questions. Questions are how we all learn, without them where would we be? So don't be embarrassed, shy, feel silly, to ask, that is the whole reason this forum is here, to share ones experiences with one another.
