What I meant was that you should be able to spin the input shaft in neutral without the output shaft turning. Or vice versa. It is possible to get the shifter rails out of sync on the NP435 such that you are in two gears at the same time. If you still have the shift lever out the use a screwdriver or somesuch to move the gears around until you get both sides in neutral. If the lever is in you have to take it out again.

Shifters not in so that's good. I'll give it a try tomorrow. Thanks.

It is pretty easy to get it in two gears at once with the lever out. Been there, done that - while putting the lever in. Make sure to check before you power up.

The input shaft is not spinning but the output shaft is. Any idea on how to correct this?

You might have to remove the lid & start again.
Normally if two gears are engaged at once, everything would be locked up...........I think you might have one selector out of place.

Sorry, when I said the shifters not in I meant shifter cover. I'm looking inside it now and the gears on the lower shaft don't slide, correct?

I put tape on the only things turning

If that is a view from the top, as I think it is, then the lower gears don't slide. (I've not had my tranny that far apart, so don't recognize the view.). I would turn the cover over and play with it to understand how and what moves, and then play with the tranny to move everything into neutral. You will see shifter "forks" that grab the sliders, and those are what you want to move to find a point where nothing is engaged.

I think I got it. The input shaft turns but not very easy.

Gary Lewis 10-07-2013 01:58 PM

If the input turns and the output doesn't you are in neutral.

Haven't posted in a week, I've been extremely busy with other things. But I have worked on the truck/garage. I put the rear wheels on and lowered the front onto wheel dollies with some wood blocking in between. After the chassis was outside I did a deep clean in the garage to setup for spraying. Sorry about the pics, there a little blury.

If you have been to rochester you might know why the roll of the eyes. :-X04 Don't take this the wrong way but, I'm kinda new to going on forums and don't feel very comfortable giving people I don't really know my address. Maybe I'll attend a NH meeting first to break the ice. Am I a jerk? :(

Oh yeah, also made a cart to put the cab on. I'll take some pics later.

Should be spraying finish coats on today. I don't know if I should sand the primer before I top coat it. I think it should be fine but the final product might look better if I do sand. If I sand though I'll have to put the rear wheels on again and roll it outside and wash it again and wait for it to dry...........winters coming and I want to start assembling engine and everything, get it running and put in storage for the winter. Any thoughts?

Gary Lewis 10-15-2013 09:08 AM

Looking good, PH.

I agree, I don't put my address on for everyone.

As for sanding the primer, I don't think it is needed, and the texture gives the finish coat something to hang on to. But that just my thinking, I am no paint nor body man.

Piston Honda 10-15-2013 10:12 AM

Yeah, I'm probably going to just spray it. I went and got some tractor paint from tractor supply, gloss black. Anyone use this before?

No, Ive never been to Rochester itself, only drove through once.

Totally understandable. Maybe Im too niave about meeting people, or too trusting? Ive never had an issue with the wrong sort of folks from the internet.

Im planning on going to the NH get together on sunday.
