  • Used: There are several sources of used pads, but what all of them have in common is that the pads are old and, therefore, subject to cracking just like ours did. In fact, some of of have purchased these and they've cracked soon after getting them home. So, I would not pay much at all for one. I saw one recently on eBay that was up to about $100 with 4 days left on the bidding and $50 for shipping. So it could easily have gone for more than half of a new one and might be cracked by the time you get it. Not something I'm interested in gambling on.
Thanks for the help for the dash pad. I think for that price I might have to try the dash cover pad. I still cant find the kick panels all that I have seen is the map pockets. This is what I am looking for, but for a 80-86.

From what I've researched the new Ford modules are cheesy, so are aftermarket ones and there's not much around here in the junkyards. What's my options for finding a quality original module?

Just buy the Napa/Echlin TP40 or the SMP LX203
Both are good modules.

Mine has a MADE IN CHINA box on it. It works, that's all I can say about it.

Does the retard function work too?

Sure you can buy a 'Duralast Gold' box at autozone with a 'lifetime garuantee'...
And hopefully you will never need to walk there to get it replaced.

I don't have any problem with where it's made, I just have a problem with the QC (or lack of it) from some suppliers.

Yeah it does work surprisingly. I didn't buy it, so the warranty is nil anyways for me. It was replaced shortly before I bought the truck. Along with the distributor, cap and rotor. Coil was new too, but I bought a different one to do away with the horseshoe connectors.

Didn't exist anymore, otherwise I'd have kept it. The truck also had a new aluminum radiator installed a few years back. Perhaps when the engine was rebuilt or replaced. It had to be a few years old, as there was some minor scale in the radiator. That seems to have been late 2007 to early 2008. Approximately 200,000 plus or minus miles. I have three transmission coolers LOL. The thing I find weird is, I'm pretty sure this truck had the original sparkplug wires. They were OE looking and rotten as could be. They misfired like hell under load, I wonder why he didn't replace those.

I bought a horseshoe from Dorman for ~$5

Replaced it last year when one of the wires went bare.
(but the plastic connector didn't fail)

It worked this time. You have the base-level kick panels with the vents. I've not seen those in forever.
