88 Bronco 2 hard time dwnshifting

I have a bronco 2 that will shift just fine going up through the gears but is rough when trying to downshift through gears. It almost feels like it is grabbing a little and you have to force it into gear. HELP :-huh

Welcome to the forum. We don't get a lot of activity here so it's nice to have a new member.:-X06

I'm not sure why you would be having trouble downshifting and not upshifting. Probably not the case but if you're trying to shift into a very low gear while going fast (high rpm's) then hard shifting is normal.

Sometimes just changing the transmission fluid can help a lot.

How is your clutch? It should be releasing the transmission pretty soon when starting to press the pedal. Does the pedal feel spongy?

How many miles are on the transmission. My '88 FM146 has 181,000 miles and after doing the checks above, believe my synchronizers are just worn out from age. So there's not much that can be done in my case short of a rebuild. Sometimes double shifting helps.

hello, i have a 86 B2 eddie bower 4wd and my auto tranny slips when i reapply the gas pedal. upon accel from a dead stop it will cycle through the gears without any slip all the way up to 80+ mph (i didnt want to get pulled over so i slowed after that point) but when in traffic, if the pedal is let up while coasting and depressed again it will slip and overrev as if in neutral, and finally clunk several times as it grabs. i have changed the trans fluid 3 times and filter twice. i also replace the shift sensor on the side of the trans (with the vacuum line) and stillth same problem, i have learned to feather the gas so the slipping and clunking are lessened but i would really love to fix the problem before my rear end drops out or it messes anything else. any suggestions???
