What are you doing to get more low end.

Just got a 9k 5er and the 6.2 handles it ok as long as the revs are up around 4000 as it seems this engine loves to be cranked. What kind of add ons are making the low end of this truck a bit more useable. I know I should have got 430 rear but I have 373. Does 5star tunes wake this beast up earlier or what about cold air intake and a freer flowing muffler? Would like to know what everyone is doing and how its working for them. Thanks.

immediately trade ur truck for an 05-10 model year with a 3v v10,

but really idk, a lot of us would like some more tq in the lower rpm's, to make
for a better tow/hual rig

Intake and exhaust mods are for the most part a waste of money on modern vehicles, (IMHO) with the computer controling everything. A tune will help with the shifting and give you a bit more HP/Tq and is generally the best bang for your buck, but you may void your warranty. gears W/tune is your best course if you want to spend the bucks, BUT; having said all that, this engine makes it's hay up high in the RPM range, and that isn't going to change. You'll have to get used to it, and accept it. Won't hurt it a bit to let 'er run. Good luck.

I am totally satisfied with my 6.2 with 4.30 diffy.

Tow an 11.5K fifth wheel. Cruise at 65 on flat land with the trans in 6th and cruise engaged. R's are 2000.

From what I have read, you can lock out 6th on the 3.73's and have about the same as I do with the 4.30.

You are correct. I do that sometimes with a load. For example, I just took a trip to Arkansas from Texas and got into some hilly roads with 5200-lbs on my flatbed(3.73) and locked out 6th gear.
It made all the difference. Once you learn how to play around with the gears, it's makes towing a load much easier.
Still, a 4.30 will jump off the line faster than a 3.73
My old F-550 with a 4.88 would sprint out of the hole fast.
However my 6.2 can too, but only if I STOMP on it :-jammin

Not much you can do to gain torque. As mentioned...you can definitely use the "Manual" portion of the tranny to hold the gears longer. Or when running in "Auto"...lock out the higher 5th and 6th.;)

The real key here...is not to be intimidated with those high rpm's. That is how this engine is designed. It will run at 3500 thru 4500 rpm all day long with no worries.:D

Just saying...I am so glad that I ordered my SD with the 4.30's. :-X04

I have the 4.30 gears but my truck feels like it has 3.25 compared to my v10 with 4.10 gears. I added an intake and exhaust and it made a tiny improvement, not worth the cost. These engines just like to rev. Evening hauling an atv in the back makes me use the tow/haul mode on the tranny.

I think I figured it out. It is the generation gap. I am seldom if ever in a hurry. Sometimes/most of the time I don't even use tow haul when pulling the 11.5K fifth wheel. But I do run 65 when up to speed to keep the R's at 2000. :)

My with the 4.30 gears drags my 8000lbs TT all over the Canadian Rockies pretty well, gets off the line quickly too :) I live at a elevation of 3600 ft, so it has some power loss due to altitude.

I am 50 years old and still usually in a hurry. I use the tow haul just to save on tranny wear and tear.

I think it comes down to how you want to tow and you need to know what to expect....... From what I have read people are buying the SD with the 6.2 and are expecting 6.7 performance.............

The 6.2 makes plenty of power to pull most all loads....your just not gonna do it as fast or as efficient as a diesel. They do make the power higher up and if you dont like that then maybe you should consider a different power train.

Most all gas engines current and older are going to make their peak power higher than any diesel that is just the nature of a gas engine. These 6.2's make just about the same power the diesel's did 8-10 years ago.

I think most people just associate a Super Duty to make all its power right now weather its a gasser or a diesel.

Bottom line is the 6.2 will pull what you wanna pull you just gotta get the revs up!

Tune it with 5 star will help a lot trust me allows sooner throttle body opening

YES!!
Running reg gas with performance/tow tune makes a big difference!!
It also changes the tranny shifts.
You can get custom tunes from 5Star.

If I run 87 on 93 tune I can tell a big difference it doesn't run well at all . Didn't think it make a difference but I can tell for sure

Not sure why you would even try that, it says to use only the octane the tune is designed for. When the truck has a tune in it it does not adapt to the fuel type like it does when it has the factory tune. And running a 93 tune your fuel and timing setting would be wayyyy off and cause some serious detonation issues with 87 octane fuel.
I tried the 87 economy tune for a 850 mile trip and saw a bit of difference in mileage then put the 87 perf/tow tune in it and I will not ever put the economy tune back in, the truck is that much better with the tow tune.
