Timing Chain / Belt

Just a maintenance question ('99 F250/V10 - 264,000 kms)

I've had my truck a few days now, so far love it. I have reciepts from the previous owner for lots of work but no mention of a timing belt (or chain?).

How regularly should this be replaced? How will I know if it is starting to "go"? If it goes on its own while driving will it damage anything or just leave me stranded? (I have heard that with some vehicles when they go it is VERY bad, others no big deal).

Any advice or recommendations on this? Thanks!!

It will get noise. That being said, the chains on the modular are designed very well with good lubrication. I wouldn't worry about it. Also I believe the modulars are non interference motors.

The timing chain (no belt) should be replaced when the engine is rebuilt.
