Simon, I see that you have done the FRx and HPx, did you notice any change with these mods??
or anyone else that has them |
Best to start a new Hpx/FRx thread to start a discussion or share observations on this!

Are our wheel studs 1.5 or 2.0 thread? they are sending me 2.0 for free, I guess if they are wrong it aint much to get the right ones.
But I think all Aussie trucks were 2.0 (coarse thread) |

Just ordered 6 x 16x8" Dick Cepek Torque alloy wheels from Tire Rack, shipped to USAtoAUS. Tire Rack would not take payment via a foreign Paypal a/c, but they have accepted the Aussie Visacard payment.
Also BTW, I found that Costco stocks BFG T/A Load E tyres 265/75 16 or 285/75 16 for $250 a corner. Anymore ever converted a trailer to run 8x170 stud pattern? |

Anymore ever converted a trailer to run 8x170 stud pattern? Your other option will be to have an adapter plate made up. (see attached). Depending on your current trailer axle width, and planned backspacing for the wheels, this may push your trailers wheels out of track with your truck, so you may need to shorten your trailer axle.. Sadly no one makes 8x170 trailer hubs :-X18 |
Adrian, US Costco is now also in Australia. And they've got the US truck tires (sic - tyres really).
Thanks for the adaptor plate idea. That is a gem. I should be able to get/make a plate to covert Ozzy 5 stud Ford Falcon pattern to 8x170. It's for a 6x4' box trailer. I'll have to extend the leaf shackles and guards, but it will be narrower than the truck. BTW, I like that black 'horse-shoe' rim that you have in the pic! |

If you have access to a Lathe/Mill it will be cheap job, otherwise there is probably an hour/two of machining involved. |
No lathe/mill here. I will have to visit an engineering shop. Do you have a drawing of your adaptor plate that I can have (PDF)?
I'll also have to hunt for the 16 14x2mm studs. |
Check your wheel studs on your truck first, they might be 1.5mm pitch.
The US ones changed in 2002, not sure if the Aussie ones did too. Here was where I bought them from: http://www.summitracing.com/search/d.../14mm-x-2-0-rh (you might be able to find them cheaper - but get the studs first before machining, so the shop can make the spacer width and counter bore for the stud head the right size to fit it all) I don't have a drawing of the spacer as I machined it as I designed it :-D but its very simple. Overall spacer 20mm thick (or thereabouts) Centre hole to clear existing hub cap 5 holes for existing studs, Falcons off the top of my head use the 5x4.5in bolt pattern (pretty standard - and the same as my spacers), countersunk on the wheel side and using small "acorn" open ended lug nuts to ensure the spacer is lug centric, and you don't have wheel runout. Here is an example:
Amazon.com: Spline Drive Small Diameter Open End Acorn 12x1.25 Lug Nut Kit 20 Pc Set with Key: Automotive
8 holes for the new 8x170 mm studs, holes counterbored on the backside to clear the head of the new wheel studs, so its flush. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any questions, unfortunately I no longer have access to a lathe or a mill, otherwise would have offered to make them up for you. |
Was looking in the CA chapter, and someone was looking to go from 8x6.5 hubs to 8x170 wheels. This website got suggested. I didn't see any that fit your requirements, but they might make them for you for cheaper than you could get them machined in Aus.
