Want to install alarm & remote start

Hey all,

New to this site. Been a lone time Expedition owner... Just retired my 2000 Expedition XLT 4x4 - has 165k miles, but it's getting eaten up by rust (after 12 years in NY).

In Florida now, and just picked up a 2008 Expy XLT - not 4x4 :(

Want to add a security system & remote start - but worried about it goofing up the existing anti-theft (passive starter kill). Which after market systems would be a good choice, or do I simply go to Ford and let them handle for me?

Thanks for any advice.

on my 2011 Expy they installed an Avital entry level and programmed it to the factory remote which is nice, but the range is horrible (dealer contracted out). I just had Best Buy install a Viper 2-way remote start (Ford fired the guy they were contracting out with before and told me to go to Best Buy) on my 2013 F150 and it has phenomenal range and lets me know when it is started. I do have an additional FOB with it now though.
The F150 will trigger the factory alarm if my wife locks it with the ford remote and I unlock with the Viper and then open it - but it is not that big of a deal.

Thank you mtondreo,

I appreciate the response.

Reason for my concern was that the last time I had a non-dealer put in an alarm system was on a 2006 Ford Taurus Se. Car was great for the first six months, but then I wanted to add an alarm system (non factory, non-dealer installed). I happened to use a Best Buy while up in MA. I wasn't as fortunate - since then, the car experienced electronic glitches - factory passive alarm (starter kill) would compete against the other alarm installed, also experienced other odd electronic problems.

I know this was a long time ago, and a matter of bad luck with possibly a bad or inexperienced tech guy installing it, or maybe it was the system that I bought. Regardless, this memory is haunting me and I don't want to ruin my brand new (to me anyway) Expy. But I do want an audible alarm system instead of only a passive starter kill.

Will look into that system - thanks for the suggestion!
