tranny issue? Hard shift from 4th to 5th?

I am 500 miles from home and my truck is slamming from 4th to 5th gear sometimes. I havea 5star 87 tune, it did not do it while towing, i will probably put back to stock, anyone have issue like this?

Mine has been doing this for 3 years, but from5 down to fourth. I also have a serious flare from 2nd-3rd. I still have to bring it in to have the TSB done. Last thing I would do 500 miles away from home is mess with the trucks computer, put it in manual and you’ll make it home fine.

I returned it to stock and it is fine, towed it home with no issues, this is not a daily driver so it will be slow to test it out again. I am not sure if I will put the program back in?

What did 5 Star say about it?

Put it back to stock and see what happens.

Mike said that the tranny learns and that after towing and running empty it will shift hard in all gears till it learns there is no load attached maybee with in a 100 miles, but I put 150 miles on it after I unhitched before it started slamming into 5th from 4th, but it only did it once and a while, normal drivivng, it also seamed to shift hard from 2nd to 1st, but with 4.30 gears it might be normal, it did that all the time with the tune and less stock.
I only put about 20 miles on it after I put it back to stock before hitching up the TT and bringing it home, it did not act up stock yet. It might be a week before I drive it again.

I did not want to experiment far from home.

On a side note I got the exact same milage with the tune and without towing, 7.6mpg's 8000# TT

Sounds good. Let me know if you have any questions.

I put about 240 miles on truck (2 trips to work) after towing with the stock tune and no shifting issues. I called Mike at 5 star and he sent a revised tune with softer shift points, I really could't tell if he just changed 4th to 5th or all shift points? It did seam firmer than stock. I put 120 miles on it and it shifted fine, its 90% highway so not allot of shifting, willl be towing in a couple weekends so well se what happens.

I have a 13 f-250 SD with Fx4 lariat loaded and mine makes a noise shifting from 2 to 1st started around 8,000 miles and have been fighting with ford since about it. I currently have 22,000 miles and we have reset the computer and it still does it. Not very happy after spending 54,000 plus dollars on special order truck to have tranny issues this soon. Has anyone had same issues and were they able to fix I'm ready to pull my hair out. Thanks Rich

Since my program change I only drove my truck a couple times maybe 400 miles, and it has not done the same thing again from 4th to 5th. Time will tell.

I do notice mine will downshift a little hard from 2nd to 1st with my 4.30 gears. I wonder if the trucks shift at the same rpm regardless of the gearing? That could explain some of the hard shifting issues. I do get a clunk when going in and out of park, my idle seams to high I thought about trying to lower the idle but I think its drive by wire so its not a simple as adjusting a stop screw.

I have the 3.73 gears the dealer drove the same exact truck that I own but different color and they said it made the same noise I'm confused. I don't think a brand new truck should clunk when it downshifts !!!!
