Replacing cam bearings

Hello all,

I have somehow found myself on an engine building adventure. It all started when my oil pump seized due to a piece of broken valve stem seal that made it past the oil pump pick-up screen.

It's a 68' 429, in my 66' F100. Since I pulled the motor to install a new pump I decided to throw in a new cam. Today I pulled the cam to find all of my cam bearings are heavily scored and literally falling apart.

To make what could be an extremely long story short I'll get to the point.

Have any of you had to have new cam bearings installed? Did you have to tear the block completely down? (pull crank and pistons) And what was the rough cost?

Thank you in advance.

Jesse

What do the rest of the bearings look like?

I would pull it down and do a rebuild as long as you are that far into it.

Where did all the material from those bearings go? Through the other bearings at some point!!

85e,

I had been thinking the same thing. I am going to just pull the rest of the motor apart and start from scratch. Thank you for the input.

Jesse
