Was there a standard for antifreeze in 1970 for my 1970 Ford F250 or can I use any coolant

Just good ol' green coolant. 50/50 ratio with DISTILLED water.

I have some Dex cool laying around the shop... Do you think I will be safe it's not green.

I wouldn't. DEXCOOL can't be mixed with anything else. Even if you don't get ALL the old green stuff flushed out. The two create a chemical reaction. Plus you would be stuck with the Dexcool farther down the road in a emergency situation.

I like Prestone and grocery store distilled water mixed 50/50. I keep it on hand premixed and can add it to anything in the yard.

It has worked well in North Carolina for over 40 years. :)
