change oil after egr/oil cooler failure?

My oil looks good, and has 1000 miles on it. I am going to replace the screen under the oil cooler but it's in a pool of oil. I don't think any coolant got in there, but I have the oil to change in already.

My plan was to get it all together, top off with the mssing 2-3 quarts of oil, flusht he coolant, run it for an hour with distilled water, then do a coolant, oil, and oil filter change. Can I swap that screen without draining the oil? I don't have a clean container to drain the oil into to reuse for the time being. I figure there's osme crud that has gotten into the oil during the part swap.

Can I change that screen without draining hte oil?

Bud I would take a Shop Vac and Suck the HPO Reservoir out make shure theres No Junk in there

this will get any garbage out of the res

You can change the screen out either way

You will have to top off the Oil Anyways if your going to reuse it from what been lost to the work and the Bad Oil cooler

I changed it out, I think I found the cause of my oil cooler failure too. 4 of the 6 screens had blown through.

pull the IPR and Check its screen

You may need a IPR Screen Kit

That Old Screen looks to have chunks of Junk on it

That screen is the Final Filter before the HPO System It Didn't have anything to do with the Oil Cooler That Screen is After the Oil Cooler

Got it. Any idea hwere I can get one at 8pm on a saturday or first thing on a sunday morning? I really don't want to wait until monday to make progress.

SOME FORD dealers are open late

Cant see it at Oreilly auto parts

Make shure you get the Updated SS Screen

I found a place 15 miles away that has parts hours 9-3 sunday, that's it. I'll call them tomorrow. Is there a part number i can use to eliminate any risk of getting the wrong thing?

If I pull it and it looks good, is it safe to keep using? It wasn't really chunks that you saw in the picture, more like bubbles, with a couple tiny specs.

I vacuumed the oil cooler area and it looked good, I'm hoping for the best here...

I got it out, but I don't see a screen anywhere. How do I take it apart? I searched and can't find anything that details it out with a diagram or schematics.

Piece of Thin Wire with a HOOK

May Snag it Out without Harm

JaySVX 07-14-2013 02:23 PM

I got int here with my pinkey, it just seemed to push back. I'm thinking a big paper clip might do hte job if I can find one big enough.

If I keep pushing it back will I lose it? I think i might have to puncture the screen to get it out. The screen feels metal but it doesn't look like it has the plastic Y on it.

When I install the new screen do I do it with the plastic Y facing out, or facing in?
