Is the 6.2 going out in 2015?
 

A commenter on another forum claimed to work at the Dearborn plant and said that the 6.2 is going out of production after 2014. Who knows if this guy is for real, or knows what he is talking about. Has anyone else heard rumors?

If true, I guess I better pony up and grab one in 2014 before they stop production...

I make Connecting rod's for Ford, and we have not developed a new rod yet. That isn't saying they wont hop up a 5.0, but I haven't heard of, or seen anything at work.
Generally we develop new rod's a couple of years in advance.

Dearborn builds F-150's and I hear the 6.2L is being dropped from the F-150 when the new model comes out, so that guy is probably right. It will still be available in the Super Duty from what I understand.

Maybe replaced by turbocharged 5.0.

The 6.2L is one of Ford's newest engine architectures. I doubt it's even completely paid for itself yet. It will definitely stick around for a while longer, though there will likely be some changes:

First, it will likely see a hp/tq bump to be competitive with Chrysler's new 6.4L and whatever GM releases for their new HD trucks. I also have no doubt it will eventually also replace the 6.8L V10 in chassis cab applications (though again, with a hp/tq bump over the current version).

Second, it's doubtful the 6.2L will be available as an option in the next generation F150. They're serious about dropping weight in that truck and the iron block 6.2L is absurdly heavy and very large. The only way I could possibly see it sticking around is if they give it an aluminum block.

I too suspect the 6.2L will stay around for the Super Duty, and will be upgraded to stay current with GM and Ram. I think direct injection is very likely, but I don't think we will be seeing a turbocharged Ecoboost version or 3 or 4 valve heads. I hear it is very unlikely that the 6.2L will ever be used in trucks larger than the F-350.

I should have been more specific. I meant Ford will stop putting the 6.2 in the F150. It sounds like that is the consensus here.
