I have a 1995 Ford F-150, 4x4, 5spd, with a 4.9 inline-6. It just rolled over 194,000 today. I changed the oil in it today, and I was inspecting it and I noticed that on my transfer case, down by the drain plug, there is a nice little hairline crack coming from the plug. Whoever the idiot was that changed it last must have used an impact wrench on it! :-X09

Anyway, if this motor ever decides to quit on me, which it probably never will, I am looking at a few different possibilities for an engine swap. First things first, can anybody tell me what transmission I have now? The numbers I found on it are as follows:
F1TA
GC
B805916

The transfer case numbers are as follows:

Borg Warner
13-56-065-910(I am assuming this is either a part # or a casting #)

On the tag on one of the rear bolts:
BO25 1 1356-78
160258 F5TA-HA

Which transmission do I have?
 

I am sure there are books out there with those numbers, but if you are the original owner, and/or you are sure the tranny has never been swapped, you can get a code off of the sticker on the inside of the door on the driver's side...The stickers should have something like a heading that reads "trans" and a code underneath that...

Give us that code, and it will likely be a quicker ID...:-X10

I am going to say you have the Mazda Tranny with the inline 6 and it being a F150 I have a 302 and i have the mazda. If it were a F250 it could have had the ZF tranny.

OK you have a Mazda Tranny 3.55 rear end NON limited slip and the spring codes just give me part numbers. I go this info from a Ford Service CD i bought off Ebay for 15bucks. It comes in handy you should look into getting one.

What kind of horsepower and torque limits are we talking for a tranny like this?

I have 275 give or take a few and it does fine. I would say if you go more then like 300+ you might want a ZF but i am not really sure on this.

I'm not sure about hp yet, but I will probably be running in the 400 ft-lb range.
