Trav, from the way Tom was describing the Curt's braking method, it seems like it wouldn't make for smooth braking. Plus the fact that, according to Tom, that style of controller made braking more dangerous and a higher risk of jackknifing.

Yup. The brake controller cares not how much or how little you are trying to brake, it will always brake the same amount. Which means that you have to pick a happy medium which will severely overbrake the trailer in a light application and dangerously underbrake the trailer in a panic stop. The end result is a trailer that's tough to control in the vast majority of braking conditions, and there's absolutely no room for that when running 50% over rated capacity.

When I Googled the specific controller I found a thread that gave the best description: Time-delay controllers aren't worth the box they are shipped in. There is NO circumstance where I would ever recommend one. :-down

So basically, once I get the new controller, the old one should just go right to the trash bin? I was thinking about putting it on craigslist to see if I could get a couple bucks for it. But seeing that more detailed description, I don't think I could actually sell that to someone to actually use.

I have no idea, best guess is the front hubs. The truck drives just great and 4WD seems to work just fine so I don't know.

Thanks Tom and everyone for another great tow meet! :-X03

I'm really impressed with the Ecoboost performance! :-X22

Excellent thread, as usual. I can tell that V10 is really screaming for a 4 low range if it could have had the choice! I'm sure that could have helped it get going some on that hill.

That EcoBoost really did an amazing job.

Just came across this thread.

Really impressed with all the trucks, 15,000 lbs is nothing to sneeze at...And it was probably enough to overload all the gas trucks there, especially the F-150.

The thing that stands out the most in this video to me is how far we've come in gas engines over the past 10 years. Comparing the 13 year old 6.8L V-10 and the new 6.2L V8 was a night and day difference, granted the 6.2L was better geared to pull, it still pulled a substantial lead over the old V-10 in every respect. The V-10 did very well and pulled impressively once it overcame its gearing disadvantage, but it was clear the 6.2L had the advantage from the get go.

The Ecoboost F-150 did very very good all things considered, and that's coming from a die hard V8 guy!

Very impressed with all of these trucks. Thanks for posting up the videos! Really enjoyed seeing the difference's of how all the trucks handled the load.
I think a 5.0L EB would be amazing. I would love to see a 5.0L EB in the F-150's...Let along the Superdutys. The 5.0L has some awesome potential its potent enough to run with the competitions bigger engines =D. I don't think an EB V8 is as far fetched as some might think...The 5.0L has be built with room for forced induction in the future, so I think a 5.0L EB could definitely be on the horizon.

P.S to the Ecoboost owner, hope your truck is ok! That was some pretty harsh drive line lash there at the beginning!

So far so good, I've been in and out of 4WD over a dozen times since then with no issues. I'll be keeping a close eye on things in the future, but I think everything is fine. :-down

Hey 640, I wonder how a big block 640 would pull that hill? I don't remember anyone pulling that hill with a 460 or a FE based engine. I think a 640 would sound sweet pulling up that hill.
