I need some help & advice on 4WD

Hey guys. I've got a situation I hope some of you can offer some help on. I had my 06 FX4 up for sale and my wife took it up to her place of business to try and get more exposure.
Anyway, today a young man (mid 20's) came in and was looking at the truck. He was talking with another man there who was also looking at it. He comes inside and ask my wife if he can test drive it and she gives him the keys.
A little while later he comes back with the truck, says he loves it and pays for it on the spot.
Ok, about 9:00pm tonight, this guy calls my wife and says that the 4WD is tore up in it and it makes a bad noise. She doesn't know what to say to him so I take the phone and I tell him that I regularly place the truck in 4WD and there has never been a problem with it.
I guess my question to you is what could possibly go wrong with a 4WD with the truck sitting in a parking lot? I know it was working fine when we took it up there.
Also, I don't know what this kid may or may not have done to the truck inbetween the time he bought it and when he called us. I mean, he had ample opportunity to test drive it and check it out.
How would you folks handle something like this.

His problem not yours.

X2 ^^ . If It was working when you sold it , and no previous issues ,, he probably tore it up himself .

...and be glad he didn't return from the test drive and tell you that. Refer him to this forum to make repairs to his truck.

I'm inclined to think its his problem as well. I have never had a problem with it and I don't think it would just all of a sudden go bad sitting for a few days like that.
I was just wanting to do the right thing by him, but I honestly think he may have done something to have caused this.
Any advice on what I can tell him to look for, i.e., hubs, vacuum, etc.?

Did you sell it in good faith, problem free?

Did you sell it "as is" with no guarantees or a warrantee?

Then unfortunately, the truck is his, with all the pleasures and pain it may bring.

What if he came back a month, six months, or a year later and said the truck was broken? Would you feel obligated in any way?

You have no clue what he did to the truck after the deal was made.
