Need info on 1958 M100 Vin

My uncle, father and I are trying to gather as much info as we can about the truck, (it was my grandfathers and we are planning to restore) right now the catch is my uncle can't find the vin.

Through some detective work I've managed to find a number on the glove box plate, I think I've decoded most of it, I'm hoping its right..

Number is 5991010WK12774

If what I've done is right the info goes like this

5 ?
99- Styleside
10-M100
10-110 Wheelbase
W-Build year
K-Oakville Plant
12774- Sequence number.

So, I'm wondering if the vin actually starts with a M10 or a F10. I would think F10 so, the vin should be

F10*8K12774

The star would be engine size right ? Which is what the 5 at the start of the number should be ?

Anyone have any ideas ?? How far off am I ?

Thanks.

That's an interest number you have come up with. The NumberDummy will be your best bet for explanation. Post all the info you can find.

Sadly, that's all the info I have here.

The truck is 3 hours away from where I am.

What I have is what was on the data plate on the glove box door.

5991010WK12774
AGD
99
3 LD
4.11-1
M100
110
5000

The info I have seen says that AGD is Trim package
99 is Paint which I've found to be Burgundy
3LD is 3 speed Light Duty Trans
4.11-1 seems to be Gear Ratio
M100 is model
110 is wheelbase
5000 is GVW

I've been told it is a 6 cyl, and my research says that the only 6 was there is a 272 CI 2 Barrel Carb with 153 Horsepower

So I'm hoping that my hours jumping from fan page to fan page is accurate and that what I've seen here so far actually pans out the way I'd like it to.

There are several Mercury owners on here and the 49-56 forum that may have info to help decode. But I don't think the Ford info translate to Mercury.
