new 6.2 vs old 3v v10
Has any one gone from a 3v v10 to a similar 6.2 v8?
It seems that mostly its from diesel to the 6.2. I love my v10, but the v10 is is old and gone now in the super duty so how dose the 6.2 pull vs the old 3v v10 as the only thing I've heard is that they are "quick"? |
I came from a 2v V10, and my 6.2 would run circles around it in my opinion. I loved my V10 though, different grunt than the 6.2 kinda.
Anyways, Jason (Quad Racer) and I were at the last Ohio meet, pulling the same trailer (16,500lbs) flatout up a long hill. My 6.2 at 2 different points in the pull was 10mph and 9mph faster than the 3v V10. Now I know this isn't "real world/long pull" experience, but in all honesty, it's the only record on paper I've been able to dig up, everything else is just someone's opinion (which can be good/bad)... Talking to diesel guys they should have been running closer to 100 mph buy the top lol.
my 06 will walk away from dad's 00 when pulling 34,000# total weight. 14 round bails on a 32ft flatbed, overloaded yes legal well it's farm related so that's a very gray area. After pulling with my v10 and driving some diesels I have lost the wow factor for the diesel. |

granted its opinion, but that's it I liked reading silverbullets thread, and its sounded fun and all, but in my real world day in and day out use,my 2012 is not an upgrade from my 2005 ive had a SD with a 5.4 in the past and the new 6.2 is an upgrade from that, obviously ---but I suppose it all comes down to how your going to use it |
I currently have both. They are both F-250 supercab longboxes. The 3V V10 is quicker of the line but the 6.2 feels quicker at highway speed full throttle passes. Milage is the same at about 15 mpg with both. I think I prefer the old 5 speed auto better than the new 6 speed. The 6 speed shifts alot more compared to the 5 speed. The v10 has 4.10 gears and the 6.2 runs the 4.30 cogs. I really havent got an opinion on which motor I prefer yet.

With that said, the 6.2L is in its infancy. Compare the new 6.2L to the early 6.8L 2v and the 6.2L blows it away. It will be interesting to see how the next generation of 6.2L does against the (last generation of) 6.8L 3v. I really think it has the potential to be a better engine than the 6.8L if Ford chooses to pursue it. Either a slight displacement increase or direct injection would increase the low end torque immensely, while maintaining the 6.2L's advantage in things like horsepower, weight, less moving parts, less internal friction, etc. |
I would like to see a supercharger built just for the Super Duty. That thing would be a beast.

There are some threads on hear where it's been done (mostly 2v v10) and one 3v v10 with a turbo that looked bad a$$. I could see a supercharger kit for the 6.2 happening since since it's in the f150 raptor.

Whipple on 6.2 that would be sweet. Back to the vs, I would love to hear from any one that has gone from a 3v v10 to a very similar 6.2 truck.

I came from a 3V V10 to a 6.2 with 4:30 gears. Boy am I missing that off the line torque from the V10. I'm not a lead foot. I like to feather the gas off the line. But it's not doing me any justice with the 6.2. This 6 speed likes to shift from 1-2 way too soon. And it just seems sloppy in general. My truck isn't broken in yet. But I hope it will be a little peppier when it does. I'm thinking a tune is in order.

I tuned mine but it's still no V10.

The guys coming from a 5.4 feel the extra power, but us guys coming from the V10 where spoiled with torque of the engine. After putting 16,000K miles on the truck now still getting used to trans/ engine combo.
