Yeah, those ones are okay. I was thinking about upgrading to LED smoked tail lights, but I figured I'd try smoking mine first to see how I liked it.

The only Leds for our year trucks are LED bulbs not the whole thing so far that I have found.

Correct. I was considering possibly with going to the black tail lights like LMC has (here: Truck Parts and Truck Accessories ), and upgrading to LED bulbs.

Ya I have looked at them but don't care for the euro tail lights much. I want to convert my lights to all LEDs with super white or something brighter headlights. Anyways sorry for getting off topic in your thread and all I guess I got a bit carried away.

I'm not a huge fan of the euro lights either. I was just looking at options other than stock since my lights were starting to get the whitish "sun-faded" look... I think I'll keep them like they are now with the tint.

No worries about getting off topic.

Redneckfordf2502002 09-24-2013 04:23 PM

Ya I like that look so I am thinking I will do that on my 88 just got to play around with photoshop and such to see how it turns out on a white/black two tone truck like I plan to do.

Well, flushed out my heater core this evening. Flushed water through it both ways for quite a while to make sure it was cleaned out.

Also flushed the old radiator out just in case I even need it for anything again. Took a while of flushing it each way and shaking it while flushing it until the water came out perfectly clear either way. There was definitely some gunk in it. It still cooled fine before, so I figure with a good cleaning it can still be used for something later. Just wanted to have a completely fresh new radiator for my fresh engine.

Hopefully the truck will be back on the road late next week. Like I said, the engine should be done next Monday according to the rebuilder.

BigBlockF350 09-30-2013 01:24 PM

Towed the truck to the engine builder a few minutes ago. I think they'll be getting to it tomorrow to take the engine out that's in it. They they'll swap oil pan/pickup, intake/carb, and valve covers over. He said that they probably won't be finished with it until next week. That's fine because I'm busy and jammed on time anyhow right now.

Should've taken some pictures while I was there. They had several 1987-1996 ford trucks there, a couple 50s Chevy trucks, a 60s F100, 65 mustang 302, and a few other neat cars. Everything in fully restored condition. There was one great 92-96 F-350 crew cab long bed with a 4-6" lift, 35s, and a white paint job with purple running from the upper front fender and down along the bottom with racing checkers in it. I'll have to snap some pics when I got to pick my truck up.

F0RR35T 09-30-2013 02:08 PM

Oh yes, please get pictures of the 350! If I ever get another diesel ford it would be a 93 or 94 factory turbo f350 crew cab. They switched to Powerstroke in 95 but 93 and 94 the IDI engines had a turbo option.. I've been looking for one to put on my truck for a while now. It's a bolt on modification.

Redneckfordf2502002 09-30-2013 02:13 PM

that's sounds like my buddies shop when I was last there last week. but he is way in Arizona and the F350 sounds like a roll along package.

BigBlockF350 09-30-2013 02:17 PM

I'll get some pics the next time I go up there. Today I didn't have a camera with me, and my phone was almost dead.

BigBlockF350 10-01-2013 10:39 PM

Going to call the rebuilder tomorrow and ask him to fully drain my torque converter and drop the trans pan when he's got the engine out. I drained it all before and put in a new filter, but I put type F fluid in it. Even though it originally called for type F, I'd forgotten that it got a rebuild in 10/97 (before the 1973 460 went in, in 1998). By that time, rebuild kits called for Mercon Dextron, so I'm going to play it safe and get it full of Mercon. Think that's was in it before for about 30k miles and plenty of hard driving and tire burning, and there was almost no material in the fluid or pan when I drained it.

Plus I believe I read a Ford TSB somewhere saying to run mercon in all original C6's (and maybe C4s too) which originally called for type F. I guess sometime after mercon became the standard.

I'm about to put a carb 460 in my truck in te next week to rid the Windsor! It overheated and now I have 4 cylinders burning straight oil! This thread gets to be my guideline to like life.

Sounds cool! What year engine? Any mods?

BigBlockF350 10-03-2013 07:46 AM

So, the builder is going to drain the converter and transmission pan for me and put a new filter in. Type F may have been okay in it, by I'd rather play it safe.

So far, they've got the engine out of the truck, and he said they're almost done with the fresh engine. He said they should be dropping it in either tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, or early next week. Should have it back by the end of next week.

parkerparkerm 10-03-2013 09:53 AM

Idk what year it is but it came out of my friends 79 f150 4x4 and when they restored it they put a build 302 in it which wound up being weaker than the 460. All the 460 has is an rv cam I think they said.

Start a build thread if you haven't already. I'd like to follow your progress.

BigBlockF350 10-08-2013 02:04 PM

Visited the rebuild shop today. They're dropping the engine in this afternoon. They wanted a deposit on the total cost of their work. I've heard of enough cases of people ripping off shops by just driving away, so I didn't mind doing the deposit for their peace of mind. Gave them $2k out of about $4k total.

Engine is complete right now. Looks good. They also got the transmission and converter drained for me and put in a new filter. Said it should be done late this week. I plan to go out of town Friday morning, so unless it's done by then I'll be picking it up next Wednesday.

Got the cam specs from them:
Comp cam 1155R
.050 dur. 194 intake, and 204 exhaust
Valve lift: .464 intake, .490 exhaust
Also has matching springs and hydraulic lifters

Some pics from the shop as promised! Wasn't as much there today, and people were working on some stuff and it felt a little awkward to take pictures. Got pics of 2 trucks outside.

The OBS crew cab I mentioned before:

OMG love the crew cab! Totally quintessential 90s. Cant wait to see the pictures of the rebuilt engine! Do they repaint it too?

Yeah, they cleaned it in solvents and stuff then painted it dark (old) Ford blue. Got my chrome valve covers on it too. Looks great!

And yeah, that crew cab is AWESOME! Great 90s look, and it's in perfect condition.

F0RR35T 10-08-2013 02:48 PM

Sweet deal! Yeah they better for that kind of money.. That thing is gonna be nice though! Jealous for sure.

It'll be nice. I could have gone a lot cheaper, but I'm pretty particular and I didn't think I'd be happy with anybody but the best doing the job for me. I'll be feeling this bill for a while, but it should be worth the $$$ in the end.

F0RR35T 10-09-2013 08:15 AM

True. It will be like a new truck when its done! :-X22

Don't have it back yet. I'm literally going crazy right now. Going to call the builder later this afternoon. Hopefully he'll be done. Talked to him Monday afternoon and he said they had everything together and they were going to run it for the first time Tuesday (yesterday). Don't know why they can't be done by today. They lost some time with nasty weather and shipping parts last week.

Really hoping he'll tell me I can pick it up tomorrow. I'll report back to you after I talk to him.

BigBlockF350 10-16-2013 03:52 PM

Just talked to the builder. He said he's got it running nice. He said that he has a little bit of a leak on the passenger side header and has new gaskets ordered (Percy's aluminum gaskets, which I could have already told him were the only ones I've gotten to work...). He said he's going to get the gasket in omorrow afternoon after it comes in, and then it should be just about ready to go. He said he wants to do a bit of test driving before he declares it done, but he may be done by Saturday.

I'm going a bit crazy at this point. Can't wait to get back in my truck. Once I get it back, I'm not gonna give a dam about gas mileage. Just gonna drive that sucker.

F0RR35T 10-17-2013 08:09 AM

Good deal man!! Super excited for you. So now that you're about to get the truck back.. whats next!? :-X03

Look over here for something currently in the works:-X04: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...rket-horn.html

F0RR35T 10-17-2013 10:17 AM

Nice! Yeah I've been wanting an aftermarket horn on mine for a while now. Not only is the stock horn weak, but my low tone horn doesn't even sound! Needless to say it sounds pretty goofy. I think I'm gonna go the Cadillac horn route. I wish I could afford air horns, but I can't. :-X16

The air horn setup really isn't that crazy expensive. You can buy a whole system under $200.

Mine will only be about $120. I did get the horns for free though off of a '75 International 10-wheeler.

BigBlockF350 10-20-2013 04:11 PM

Well... Still don't have the truck back yet. Builder says he thinks he'll be through with it by Tuesday. I'm hoping that'll be it and I'll have it back. I have a feeling he got busy with other stuff, and I got thrown on the back-burner for a few days...

It's driving me nuts not to have it back yet, but at the same time I want them to make sure everything's right. And at this point, I guess a few extra days is just a drop in the bucket...

F0RR35T 10-21-2013 08:30 AM

You know what they say.. Saturday is the new Thursday! I think that's how it goes...

BigBlockF350 10-21-2013 09:58 PM

Talked to the man today. He said they had the truck out on the road today and it was doing well. He said they were heat cycling the header bolts and tightening them. They're going to tighten them once more tomorrow, and they should be done. He says he may be calling me to come get it tomorrow.

1993_f350_2013 10-21-2013 10:52 PM

You know what I think he keeps delaying it because he loves your truck and don't want to give It up! At least without any tires lol

Yeah, lol. I'll probably see burnout and wheelie marks all around his shop when I pick it up, haha

BigBlockF350 10-22-2013 06:09 PM

Talked to the builder this evening. He said they're done, got the headers sealed up nicely, and he'll be ready for me to pick it up tomorrow after 8:00. I plan on being there at 8:00, haha.

1993_f350_2013 10-22-2013 09:16 PM

I do not blame you one bit!! I'd be there too! We better be seeing some pics tomorrow!
