1955 f350 dually

Just purchased a 55 f350. It has 8 lug wheels. Everything I'm finding says the 8 lugs were on the 250's. vin tag starts off f35. Where the 8's an option?

truckdog62563 05-22-2013 07:07 AM

No, probably was converted. Does the back match the front? Stu

Fiddy5 05-22-2013 08:36 AM

Yep front is also 8 lug.

Welcome to the old truck madness and this forum. Very interesting. Like to see / know how it was done on the front. Pictures would help. Are you still running the offset cutout steel wheels? How many holes in the wheels?

I will put some pictures up this afternoon. I have caught the fever, I'm in the middle of a frame up on another 55 f100. This truck came along and I couldn't pass it up.

Welome to FTE. Please get a close up shot of the front hub. Does it have a 'Toledo adapter' on it? I have another I want to convert, but the adapters I used are quite expensive purchased new, and requires a machine shop. I'm hoping it has a front axle from something else under it, or perhaps a hub from something else that will mount on our f350 spindle. The rear is easy. I'm thinking you have a later model rear axle. Fever? Sometimes I lay awake at night for hours engineering my next phase. It only gets worse.......

Didn't get a chance to upload the pictures yet. Spent yesterday re-wiring the tail lights and going over the motor. Seems to be a 1964 model 292, or at least that's what the tag on the carb indicates. It smokes a little after it gets warmed up so I'm thinking it needs a ring job...

Could we see some pictures? Here is how.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
The best photos and videos | Photobucket

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

I'm back

Been to long. Completely rebuilt the 292 after pulling the valve covers off to adjust valve lash and couldn't see the rockers for the gunk! Nice and purdy now with plenty of good CLEAN oil making its way up top. The front axle appears to me to be from a 55 or so 250 truck and the rear is a 74 or so Dana 60.
