'37 Pickup project

Background story:

This truck was passed down from me from my father when he passed last year. This was a project he started with his dad back in the 70's. Now I have the truck and I'm in the process of finishing it for the memorial car show this July. Right now I have worked on the truck by myself. I am new to restorations so I am learning along the way. Right now I have problems with space seeing as how it is in a two car garage along with the mower and lots of boxes from when we moved. I also don't have a lot of the resources and tools I need right now.

Truck Specs:

This truck has the chassis from a 1980's 4x4 S10 w/ 4.3 V6 and auto trans. The engine is a 4.3 V6 with a "boat" cam, vortec heads, edelbrock 4 barrel manifold, edlebrock 1406 carb, and complete msd igniton w/ an hei distributor. The cab has been extended and I am currently working on the interior.

To do:

First objective is to get the engine running
Needs fuel tank, fuel lines, brake lines, and cooling system
Finish interior
Install new wiring harness, sound system, etc.
Install wood in bed
Needs driveshafts
Hookup trans and t-case
Might lower it a little bit
Buy and install glass
Get parts powdercoated

Best of Luck to you! Those old cars look simply amazing when they're restored.

Well, made alot of progress. Got the wiring fairly complete despite some issues. Also found a rear seat out of a blazer, rear seat belts, and some other misc. parts. To do list: lengthen rear driveshaft, finish wiring, hookup trans and t-case, run fuel and brake lines, finish interior, install glass, and get bed finished. Hopefully i can get this done by july.

BTW, if anybody knows where to find a windshield frame, please let me know.

Got a little more done this week. Made plug wires from an MSD Street Fire universal set, installed a Lokar column shift linkage, got the windshield frame fixed, started making the e-fan shroud, and some other little stuff. To do list:

Electrical- lights, audio, misc
Engine- fuel, sensors, e-fan shroud
T-case linkage
Glass install
Bed
Powdercoating
Interior- seat install, seat belts, sound deadening, gauges
Exhaust
Misc paint
Brake lines
Lower 2"

There's a lot left to do but I'm slowly getting finished. A little over a month left to go.

Did the brakes today. Had to go to the parts store six times cause i kept finding more things that i needed. All thats left for the brakes is one more brake line union. Tomorrow i plan on starting the fuel system. That should be fun...

Five weeks left till the car show. Engine is ready to run once the electrical system gets wrapped up.

Electrical system is getting finished. Just playing a waiting game with a few shipments. Oil pressure switch and some connectors. From there, assuming i did things right, the engine should be ready to run. It's going to be close getting this done. 4 weeks left to go.

Thanks guys. Its nearly ready to run.

The engine is finished. Just need to clean up the wiring a bit. Tomorrow i will fill up fluids and check for leaks. From there who knows if it will work.

It would seem that the oil dipstick tube is too long because i cant get a reading. Also, it sticks outside of the engine compartment. Ill add that to my list of things to have done at my friend's machine shop.

91blaze 06-24-2013 03:03 PM

While trying to start the engine i realized that for some reason the fuel pump is wired to only the run position. So now i dont get fuel when starting so i need to figure out why it's wired that way.

91blaze 06-25-2013 01:48 PM

Trying to start it today but with no luck. Has fuel at carb and spark at the plugs but it wont start. Not sure what to do now :(

91blaze 06-27-2013 01:14 AM

Seems the fuel regulator is screwy. Not sure if its just a bad part or something else is messed up.
