Universal Fuel Gauge and sender questions
has anyone used a universal sender and gauge? I have looked for a new sender for my truck but not having much luck and on ebay for $42 i can pickup a universal set just wondering if anyone has used one of these kits?

Those universal ones are tricky to install. Your biggest problem will be mounting it in the tank. You will notice it has no pickup for the fuel and no connection for the fuel line. So you will have to cut a new hole in the top of the gas tank to install it.
Then you will have to mount the gauge under the dash. My experience with these are the gauges tend to be "sticky" and overall it doesn't work the greatest(I had one in my 53 f100). What year and type of engine do you have in your truck? The Ford guages are very reliable, it's the sending units in the tank that gives all the trouble. I have a diesel which has a very oddball type sending unit, and is almost impossible to get, and when you do find one it's like around $200 for it. Some guys with the diesels have actually bought the unit you have in your link, and have taken it and retro-fitted it to the original Ford sending unit. If you like fiddling with stuff and you can't find your particular unit, that may be a route you could take. Just make sure you get the 0-90 ohms unit. |

Personally ill spend (and am going to in a upcomming project) the 69.95 for a bolt and go unit. I did find one on autozone.com once but havent found it again. Its a specific key word. I tbink it was about 35 bucks.

I replaced the non-working universal set up my Dad put in it with a factory replacement from LMC, now it works.

I did some looking, and it seems the local parts stores don't carry them anymore(China is falling down on the job I guess). I looked on RockAuto also.

Maybe im mixing something else up with this. Somehow for the last year i thought i had a 16 gallon tank.

Nope. Actually i was going by lmc page. They list a 16 & 19 replacement size. I ASSuMEd that was a oe size and style replacement.
