A 6.2 with 4.30 gears will pull what you want pretty easily.

If you have the time to wait order the 4.30. If you can get a better deal for one already on the lot, 3.73 will do just fine. Either way get it with electronic locking differential. I have used it a few times already and for my driving it does more for me than 4x4.

10,000lbs will not max 3.73s, 4.30s will just do it a little quicker and easier.

Will that good to hear that it will be able to pull the trailer. What are you getting for mpg

I have a 2013 F350 DRW CC 2WD with the 6.2L and 4.30 gears - just over 4000 miles on it. Empty with mixed city/highway driving looks like it will average around 13 maybe a little better. Loaded with a 13000 lb gooseneck 3 horse trailer, it's averaging just over 8 mpg. All figures are hand calculated - the truck computer is fairly close, but usually shows from .3 to .5 of a mile better per gallon, but that's the closest I've ever had on a truck computer calculation. I had a 2006 F250 CC 2WD 6.0 Diesel with 3.73 gears - pulling same trailer it averaged about 10.5 to 11; and mixed highway driving was in the 16 to 17 mpg range. The 4.30 gears along with the 6 speed transmission makes all the difference in the world if you will be pulling heavy loads, especially over 10000 lbs. I'm looking forward to lower maintenance costs also.

Only have 1600 miles and not pulled 10K yet. I pulled my 6000lbs TT 200 miles round trip and got 11 mpg at 65-70mph.. I knew it was there, but even on the steepest hill the engine never broke a sweat. In town 10-11.9 and highway 15-16.. Per tank I am averaging 12.8. More city than highway, short trips less than 4 miles.

So boys, pulled my 9,500# travel brick this last weekend with my 6.4L smoker. Interstate was seamless. Getting it moving... don't kid yourself... It's back there.

So, convince me I'll be happy going with the 6.2L. I daily drive 25k a year. I average 15-16 rural and 17-18 highway with my smoker... Not the norm for these mills. I don't know if I want the responsibility of deleting, and looking over my back. Power is not my need, but I'm not convinced the 6.4L is what I want in a year and a half with over 100k and no warranty. Looking for thoughts on why I should consider changing. I have about $2500 to spend in tires, shocks, and brakes soon, and wondering if its better to just put it toward a new truck.

I agree completely. I have towed with an '02 Dmax and my '08 V10. Don't care what anyone says, when you need the power the smoker wins. Getting heavy loads moving or keeping them moving uphill there is not much comparison.

Having said that, unless I have a real change in my thinking, my next rig will probably be another gasser.
