1953 ford
hey,
I have recently bought a 1953 ford f100 and was wondering if a ford 8.8" rear end would fit? Thanks |
Welcome to FTE! We love pictures here. Show us what you have. We have them here in all conditions, our favorites are the ones that have pictures. :)
Quite a few people have put the 8.8 into these trucks. Here is an article on rear ends for these trucks; https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/...ial_Swaps.html Here is part of that article: Ford 8.8" and 9" Background Information If you're not building a power house then you can/should give serious consideration to the 8.8" rear end used in many late model Fords. It is a good rear end and can handle a fair amount of abuse. (Because the 8.8" axle is adequate for many applications and because there are many more considerations other than width in making your decision as to what rear end to go with, there will be a little 8.8" info in this article) However, the Ford 9" rear end has long been acknowledged by auto enthusiasts of all types (that means the Ch*vy boys too) as the strongest production axle assembly used to date. It comes in various widths and axle ratios and with various mounting systems (though mounted under leaf springs is by far the most common). Did I mention we love pictures? |
1953 f100
thank you very much!
I havent gotten pictures of it yet but i will shortly hopefully, and its gonna be a project truck so im sure i will have many more questions to come, i know 9 inch is perferred, but i know you can get an 8.8 cheaper so depending on how money goes thats what im considering. Dallas |
Off topic - your user name includes customline. Do you have a vintage Ford sedan too?

1953 f100
yes i do, it is a 1955 ford customline sedan, it is an all original car besides the tires and wheels, it has dual exhaust, the 6 volt system was changed to a 12 volt, and it has a hidden six track cd player, it has right under 19,400 original miles

Nice. I have a 53 customline, 215 six, overdrive, just converted to 12V in anticipation of air conditioning, lots of miles...
