I bought my truck 4 years ago. It had a stock flathead six 226 ci ,3 speed on floor. I drove truck off & on for a year & head gasket went bad. I decided it was time for body work. Truck had quite a bit of rust. Did 95 percent of rust repair got it back together & head gasket went again. It had 33 studs , so the second time I had a second head shaved & took on taking out studs as I did not want go through this again. 9 studs broke & it took a whole day to drill them out & tap them. With the new head bolts & newly shaved head it is all going good ,until I am putting anti-freeze in. I had anti-freeze coming out of valve cover on side of motor , talk about a sick feeling....:( I had drilled down to far & hit a water jacket. So now is the time... The Flathead V-8 I had acquired for the future. It was a 80,000 engine overhauled 30,000 mile ago. I bought new radiator ,water pumps & all the other related parts ;i.e. bell housing ,carb linkage etc. Got it in & tuned up ,drove it down & put gas in it & I have steam coming out of the new duel exhaust (12" Smitty's ). I now have a newly installed Flathead V-8 with a cracked block , talk about a sick feeling :(....... So NOW I am going to start all over again. I decided to relive my youth & built a near clone of my first '48 F-1. First '48 had a '59 223 W/ '55 Milk truck 4 speed & warmed up cam. This one is getting a '62 223 W/ '57 head & a 3 speed Offenhauser 2x1 barrel finned aluminum intake & matching valve cover..
