First road trip on the 6.2 Towing!!
Ok all so the truck had 545 miles hen I left the house Sunday morning. Drove 240 miles south to Effingham Illinois to pickup my new trailer. We bought a 2009 sweet river car hauler. The Trailer deck is 42'. From gooseneck to tail its 50' long. Empty the trailer weights 5800 lbs. On the way down milage suffered I ran about 75-80mpg at roughly 12.2 mpg. Even at 65 milage was around 12.8mpg. After loading up the trailer ran 60-65 for the first 50 miles. I was rather upset at the 9.9mpg I was getting under 10mpg with an unloaded trailer. Kicking up to 70-75 the truck woul not see anyhting over 8mpg. We hit many rolling hills, I left the truck in D and noticed it rarely shifted out of sixth gear whick suprised me I was happy with that. After we unloaded the trailer driving home thinking about my fuel mileage I babied the truck home. Accelerating like a 90 year old rolling the throttle through small hills I averaged 16.6. :-jammin I pulled into my driveway sunday night with 1120 miles.
Overall Im very pleased with the truck, Just hoping mileage gets better with some more miles. Pictures will be posted soon. |

nice truck! I just got a 2013 F250 single cab service body 4x4 at work. I like it so far. I dig the 6spd, manual mode is kool. How does it pull with all the cars loaded up?

We have not hauled a load with it yet I put them up there to see where the trucks sits loaded down.

Truck looks great!

PacMan, I personally do not think your milege will improve. Judging from the way mine drives and drinks, it looks to me like the mileage ticket is in your foot.
Maybe you can slip into some lighter shoes. :-X22 |
Picked up my truck 2 weeks ago . I have not towed yet ,but am getting 15-16 mpg on the road at 60mph. When I push it to 70 drops to 13-14 . I am happy about it because my 2500 hd 6.0 was 1-2 mpg less. Going from Southern Illinois to Virginia in a couple weeks and can get a better idea then. Truck is a 250 lariat , crewcab , Kodiak Brown , FX4 ,373 gears.

Yeah I wouldn't expect much better mpg's, to be honest, you're getting better mileage dragging that trailer around than I do running around town empty (I ain't drivin' ms. daisy around either, I'm still enjoyin' the 93 tune).
My V10 was thirsty and so is this pig, but I'm used to it as I've only had 2 SD's in the past 13 years so it doesn't bother me anymore. |
My f250 is 2 weeks old. Took a day trip with the wife today to check out some campgrounds and I'm up to 900 miles. I checked MPG manually and it got 16.5 highway. The onboard computer said 14, so I don't trust it already. I'm going to be towing an 8000 lb Keystone Outback and I'm expecting about 10MPG towing the rig. I traded a Tundra in on this truck to get more payload, and I got around 10MPG towing with it and with a similar drive train, I expect about the same with the F250.

Really nice looking setup! Are those 20" on it? I know mine came stock with 17" and when I went to a bigger rim and tire about 3" taller my gear ratio changed alot. So in the summer when I'm pulling I put the smaller rims and tires on and it makes a big difference.
