Door Ajar Light 02 Explorer XLT
My door ajar light & bell goes on and off at random. It's also setting off the alarm when the doors are locked.
Any ideas on what might be causing this.:-huh |
a sticking door ajar switch, spray it real good with wd-40 three or four times. Spray all door switches

Thanks.
Does the door need to be taken apart? Or, can you tell me where the switch's are located in each door. Thanks |
switch is built into door latch

Door ajar
Thanks.
Does the door latch have to be taken apart, or can I just spray wd-40 into the area o/s the door by the pawl (latch) itself. Or can the sensor be disconnected. Just trying to understand exactly what I need to do. Thanks again. |
no need to take anything apart. Just spray and open and close door a couple times then repeat

any issue with auto headlights?
Haven't noticed any, but I really don't use this feature. Will start & see if there are any issues. Will let you know. or with the radio No, radio has been working fine. Starting to sound like a bad vsm What is a vsm? Is there anyway to test this, or disconnect & see if the door ajar light doesn't go on. |

Door Ajar
For whatever its worth.
The alarm goes off at random, when the doors are locked. This has to be, because of the door ajar coming on at random right? |

How does an interior light or cargo light coming on at random times sound like a bad VSM versus just a bad door ajar switch?

Did you get the one for the rear glass Only dealer can test, dont give up on the door latches yet |
I take it the wd-40 didnt work. Did you spray all latches?
Yes, sprayed all of them, no luck. Did you get the one for the rear glass. I disconnected this one but tied the two leads together so as to isolate the sensor because the plastic on the bottom of the lift glass is cracked (like you see on a lot of Explorers) so I thought perhaps the crack was allowing the latch bracket to move a little causing the sensor switch not do what it's suppose to do. dont give up on the door latches yet Do you have any suggestions on how to tackle this. Thanks |
