Best way to carpet
 

Hi All,
I finally laid the carpet in my grandson's 56 F100 to see what problems I might encounter. The master cylinder fill hole, battery and because I used the 53-55 gas tank all must be accessed somehow by either cutting out the carpet or somehow being able to remove the carpet for access. Any ideas are welcome.

It's best to keep the pets out of the car! ;)

I'd suggest not gluing the carpet down, but use velcro strips to keep it in place so you can lift it to access. But being a floor mat guy (literally and figuratively!) I haven't the experience.

Tucked mine under the door sill plates and Velcro up under the firewall.

I appreciate the help guys. I thought maybe the velcro way may be the answer. Rich 56, I really like your interior. Where did you get the sill plates from?

Just curious Rich, do you have to remove the sills to lift the carpet, or is it just tucked under?

Have to be removed, PITA.

Only reason would be to access battery.

I am fitting a drop down battery box to my 56 to avoid the carpet lifting exercise, been there before, what a P.I.T.A. LOL John

Having never done auto carpet before...

Is it best to just lay it down or do some sort of stretch on it like house carpeting?
I would think if it was just laid down it would stretch the fabric over time and leave wrinkles. Just like my 65 merc has in it...

Look at Rich56"s carpet and see how nice and tight it is. I took the advise of using 2" wide velcro glued to both sides after stretching and it seems to hold just fine. But before doing that, I installed all-thread in all the mounting holes. In most of the holes in the floor, I installed gripserts, but you can install a short bolt from the bottom and lock it down with a nut to achieve the same result. I then drilled some different sized round stock on my lathe to press over the studs. I then heat the round stock with a propane torch and push it over the studs and walla, you have cauterized holes. You can also use a single edge razor blade and cut an x on the stud and achieve the same results. Hope this helps someone.

Saw a guy that used snaps. I think that's the way I want to do mine when I'm ready

hmmm Snaps... I really like that idea, only if the snaps are strong enough to take the beating of snapping and unsnapping. Hate for one to rip off... Any one have snap on carpets?

I found this place that primarily does boats. Looks like you can do custom orders (sounds expensive) but better you can just buy the snaps and tool to install them your self.
