powerstroke Water Pump Lower Inlet O'Ring repair
 

I found a leak a coupe days ago and pin pointed the location, its coming from the lower inlet on the water pump. Some diesel guys online said that there is an O-ring that tends to go out and needs to be replaced. Here are some pictures.
Also, if it turns out to be an )-ring issue can i repair it from underneath the truck? instead of pulling out the serpentine belt, and clutch fan ect..

You can get the oring a dieselorings.com or riffraffdiesel.com. It's pretty easy to replace from the too or bottom.

Presoak those bolts if you can, I had trouble getting mine apart. Ended up getting a 6 point box end wrench.

12 point was stripping bolt head.

Grabbed my oring at Autozone, thermostat gasket is different size.

Tell autozone you want lower water outlet gasket. I ended up getting both Thermostat/ Lower and and picked once i removed which 2 use.

part number 3561-1 for lower oring.

Also put a lite coat of rtv silicone around new oring before mating back 2gether. Just aids in a better seal.

Had same leak a couple years ago. As temp changed, so did leak. I drained to a couple clean 5 gal buckets and removed pump inlet elbow from below. Used plenty of PB blaster early on the bolts. Bought the o ring from dealer part #F81Z-8255-AA. Cleaned up elbow with wire brush, and lubed o-ring with faucet lube.

-Years ago this was discussed and many suggested using the O ring seal that is normally used for the thermostat housing.
-I had the same leak as the OP has, MY water pump was only a year old at the time.
-I took mine apart and used the thermostat seal and plumbers faucet lube (NO RTV) and it sealed up just fine.

Well, job is done. Pretty easy to do hopefully the gasket was the issue. I removed the neck that bolts onto the water pump and instantly noticed gunk and grime around the gasket, started to remove the gasket and it crumbled apart. After cleaning the shaft or neck really well i then put on the new O-ring and sealed it with VersaChem - Mega Blue Silicone. Bolted it back on, put everything back together, and then filled my truck up with 50% distilled water and 50% Antifreeze/Coolant Peak HD - Engine Coolant / Anti-Freeze

Anyways it started to rain and i will get back once i know if the leak is fixed or not.
