Rough idle- rough driving

07 expedition has rough idle. Just happened out of nowhere. Slow acceleration rough driving. Rpms seem low when going 70. What could it be?

Sounds like a misfire . Ck eng light on ? Read codes to find the problem .

jdm5630 01-19-2013 07:24 PM

Check engine light will cone on periodically. Its blinks when it does come on. Then itll turn off for a while

JWC 3 01-19-2013 08:39 PM

If ck eng light blinks , It is a misfire ! No questions , misfire . Ecm flashes ck lamp during misfire !

JWC 3 01-19-2013 08:43 PM

Have your codes pulled to find cyl. that is missing .

jdm5630 01-19-2013 09:07 PM

If it is a missfire. How much am i looking at to fix? My vehicle is just out of warranty

JWC 3 01-19-2013 09:30 PM

DIY fix is the least expensive . Plugs , boots , perhaps a coil or two . Price varies too much for me to say . $3 to 8 per plug , Boots ? Coils $ 35 to $100 each . Get your codes , tackle those first . Go from there . Buy a cheap code reader at least . Then if you have your work "done" you at least know you aren't gettin screwed !

jdm5630 01-19-2013 09:33 PM

Easy enough for a first tine DIY?

JWC 3 01-19-2013 09:53 PM

With a Chiltons , Haynes , or a buddy with a twelve pack ,, easy! You need to do some research before trying . Not so hard , but a few things to watch for . A " newby " can do it . Just research it first ! Good luck .

Will do. Only prolem is that this is happening when we are out of town. About 5 hrs away. I it safe to drive home like this? I doubt a mehanic cn even look a it till monday

JWC 3 01-19-2013 10:37 PM

A severe miss can cause damage . Fore an example , I just did $1200 worth of work on a Toyota because of a misfire . Ford is better about protecting engines , BUT , ! I do not advise driving any distance with a miss.

jdm5630 01-20-2013 11:47 AM

Got it scanned. Brought up code 300. Myltiple cylinder misfire. guy at autozone said it could be the harness. What you guys think?

JWC 3 01-20-2013 06:40 PM

Guess I'm the only guy responding to you . Sorry . Multi miss . Ck fuel press , filter exct . Ck for vac leaks . Could have dropped a few coils ? wiring ? don't see a lot of harness issues on these or sudden multi coil ,plug failures . Ck fuel quality . Maybe a tank of bad fuel or E85 , if not a flex fuel . Jersey had a problem last year with too much Ethenol in the fuel from one distributor .

jdm5630 01-20-2013 07:00 PM

Not flex fuel. I did fill up with different gas before we left out of town. Usually put chevron gas but friday night i filled up with pilot gas. It burning gas like crazy. Autozone guy said to go to mechanic first thing tomorow morn. To narrow it down to specific cylinders

jdm5630 01-20-2013 07:06 PM

I just think its weird that the ck engibe light will go from blinking to i bein solid then back to blinking. When i blinks i will rough idle and run horrible. Whn its solid itll run better bu still buckle a little bit
