Diagram of front suspension
 

I have a 51 ford f1.

Does anyone have a diagram of how the front suspension is put together? The reason I ask is because my parts are froze together, caked with grease, mud, and rust, and I want to make sure I am not missing any parts when I put this thing back together.

I am more interested in picture 1. Right now my questions are surrounding the spindle/tie rod ends/king pins although trying to get off the backing plate is a PAIN and I have not succeeded in removing those 4 nuts yet. :) On a different note, is there anyway you can blow that picture up more?


One last question for you because I don't see it on here. When I took the hub assembly off of the spindle, I noticed that the spindle (like any other car I've worked on) has a groove running down the middle. When I pulled it off, I did not notice a small bar of steel in that groove. Is there supposed to be one on this truck?

I suspect the groove you're talking about is the one for the lock washer that goes between the outer bearing and the retaining nut.

If you haven't don so already, order a catalog from Classic Haulers and LMC (they are free). They have good reference diagrams of many of the systems.

Or order a $35~ shop manual and have 99% of the information you need, with a lot of illustrations. I guarantee you'll want it when you're sitting in your garage surrounded by parts wondering how they go back together. You can also buy illustrated parts manuals, the book has the drawings like the one posted.
