Ordered New Truck Today
 

Well I finally took the plunge. Ordered a new 2013 6.2 F350 King Ranch 4x4. Trading my 2008 6.4 F250 King Ranch 4x4.
Options above the KR package include the camper package, 4.30 rearend, cab lights, spray in bed liner, chrome steps and upfitter switches. Should be delivered in 6 to 8 weeks.
I sure hope I wont miss my 6.4 diesel power. I do look forward to less maintenance and fuel costs and I definitely wont miss the Regens.

If I were to go back to a gasser that is probably the gears I would choose.
Using the new 6 sp tranny and the 4.30 gears it can tow just as well as the 6.4.

Only difference is you will have to stay in the throttle.

But if you dont tow alot or great distances it should be just fine.

Thanks for the input Senix. I did have reservations about going back to the gas engine. But I also remember you telling me a while back that if I was not pulling or hauling heavy daily the 6.2 would probably be a better match for me. My truck is used as a daily driver to work and back and an occassional long trip. I really think this kind of driving was bad for the 6.4.

I am sure it will do you fine, ours is used mainly for towing and the occasional trip but we only tow our trailer maybe 6,000 miles a year and haul water once a month. So a diesel was just wayy over the top especially as our 34 1/2' V nose trailer only weighs abt 8500. It is also nice to be able to just go out and turn the key at -30 and drive away 2 minutes later when needed without plugging in.

Thanks for the reply. I have a friend who has the 2011 6.2 and he pulls his 5th wheel occassionally and he too has had no issues.

I would have no reservations of pulling 15k lbs after what I saw my truck do at the last Ohio meet.

Since you ordered, do yourself a favor, ask the dealer for a copy of the DORA so you can make sure what they entered is exactly as you're expecting. Once you have it, you can reference the SD order guide to confirm the codes for your build. I've seen too many people wait a month or 2 only to find out the dealer screwed up and you're stuck with a truck missing an option or reordering.

Thanks. I spent 3hrs with the salesman at the dealership I have already bought two trucks from to make sure we were on the same page. Did speak with him yesterday and he said the only issue we have is the running boards on the truck. I have ordered a King Ranch without the chrome package which comes standard with the plastic lighted running board I do not like. I want the chrome steps that do come standard with the chrome package. He was going to check again and let me know for sure. I can remember many years back if you special ordered a truck you could get it built exactly as you wanted no matter what the difference was from the standard packages. The Dealership has a great group of truck salemans and I am sure we will get it worked out but I will do as you suggest and get the DORA.

I'm going to make my order leap on a 6.2l F250 this week. Seen a lot of people going the F350 route. Other than payload any other perks going with an F350 over an F250?
I'm upgrading from a 1/2 ton to tow a four horse gooseneck. 90% empty driving, 10% towing.

I know their are a lot of folks on this site that know a lot more about trucks than I do but as you say, I think it is just the additional suspension. I went with the 350 for this reason as I plan to purchase a truck camper in the near future.
I was raised on a large ranch as a kid and we too had gooseneck horse trailers which we used 350's to pull. Thats not to say the 250 couldnt do just as well.

Congrats on the new truck!!! You'll miss the brute power of the 6.4 a little but will enjoy the power & worry free experience of the 6.2.

I made the same which in 2010 and was really satisfied but I really missed the Excursion so I went back to it.

Yeah, the taller blocks is really the only difference. I think come resale time, you may have more hits if you have a one ton than the 3/4 since you'll have a higher payload/GVWR.

The 4 horse is a short wall slant with a GVWR of 11,500. The 250 will do it. I love the stance of the 350's but I'm sure the rear ride (empty) is choppier then the 250.

My 350 rides smoother than my dads 250. My Rancho shock upgrade probably mitigated most of the rough empty ride though...

Once you get a VIN# from the dealer, is there anyway for the owner to track its progress for delivery?
