New towing mirrors

I am thinking about changing my towing mirrors to the newer 08+style. I am looking at some from 1aauto. My question is does anyone know if the smoke lenses can be changed to amber? I have an 05 KR with the cab lights that are amber, want them to match. I have found the amber lens and I would rather not buy the mirrors that already have them and have to rewire the mirror just to get that. I want to plug and play.

here is what I am looking at;1999 - 2007 Ford F250 Truck Super Duty Mirror Power Heated Signal & Clearance Light Telescoping UPGRADE Pair at 1AAuto.com

Thanks!

Sarge261 01-09-2013 10:05 AM

Well I dont know for sure the answer to your question, however if you do buy those let me know how they are quality wise. I would like to upgrade to the 08-up style as well.

And welcome to FTE

Thanks for the welcome. I will let you know.

I put these mirrors on my 05. Great functionality, good fit and finish. Only spot I notice being a bit off is where the moldings meet around the two places the mirrors pivot, not really a gap, not really perfectly aligned, if that makes any sense. I think I asked an 1AAuto rep (Tony?) about replacement lenses for the marker lights and they said they were non-replaceable (none for sale), but I would think you could dissemble to the point of removing them, very carefully that is.
I actually bought them FOR the clear marker light cover. When the lights are on, all you see is the yellow anyway. The blinker light is very noticeable for other drivers too.
They were true plug and play if you have the square connectors, and I think they included round to square adapters if not. Most other upgrades needed a mod to have the adjustments work properly.
Been holding up fine for the year I've had them. For the money I couldn't find anything else that even came close to these.

Thanks MoJo. I have an 05 also. Do you have any pics of yours?

MoJoWales 01-10-2013 03:19 PM

I'm going to the shop now and I'll take some pictures. I'll try to cover all the angles and give you a good representation of how they fit and function.
It will be late tonight/early tomorrow before I get back online to post.

I would be interested in your tow mirrors you have now if they are extendable and have the turn signals in them and are selling them. PM me if your interested in selling them.

Let me think about it. I might just do that. I will let you know.

I would think that it is a simple lens swap... Recon Truck acc offers a smoked and amber lens for the mirrors so i would think that it is a simple swap kind og similar to a headlight or taillight may have to make a few wiring adjustments but nothing too complicated.

Genuine OEM is your best bet when it comes to mirriors

MoJoWales 01-11-2013 03:02 PM

I couldn't agree more about the OEM mirrors being outstanding. Unfortunately, the price setting monkeys must have hit the wrong keys the day they set the asking prices . I still would have sourced a pair of the 08+ OEM if not for finding these from 1AAuto. They're still not 'quite' that nice, but 9-outa-10 for less than half the price is worth considering, purely IMO.

Here are some pictures I took last night.

Um, got dust?

Notice the slight gap where the mirror moldings meet when looking from above. Right where the square "slider" meets the mirror housing. That part is about the only thing I notice as a potential problem down the road.

You get two set of caps, one chrome and one paint-to-match/black. I thought the plastic chrome looked kinda substandard, but I also don't like the OEM chrome end caps. To each his/her own, but these mirrors function GREAT and they plug and play out of the box. Been great for just short of a year now.

Hopes this helps.

Mojo do they shake or vibrate any?

Agree whole heartly. Had both aftermarket and OEM mirrors. I bought my OEM from a fellow FTEr at a good price.

Those mirrors dont look bad though. I would be worried about the mirrors shaking at speed, thats what my aftermarket mirrors did.

jkpuma 01-14-2013 08:19 PM

The one thing I like about 1aa is the offer a 60 day return.

Quad Racer 01-14-2013 09:17 PM

Look good to me. Very nice project. :-X22The mirrors are oddly one of my favorite things on my truck.

They have been solid so far. In an effort to be objective, I don't have an owners perspective with 08+ OEM, but these mirrors don't shake at all.
They are very substantial/heavy with a thick seal/foam where they mount to the truck. Excepting the molding issue I noted earlier, I think they are high quality.
While a person probably can't go wrong with OEM towing mirrors from Ford, these are worth considering IMO.
If they were substandard in performance I would have replaced them in short order.

AzPete 01-15-2013 08:12 AM

Concerning the vibration issue.....other after market mirrors I have used had a vibration of the glass itself. The mirrors always mount solid to the truck.....but for some reason they cannot get the glass to be vibration free. I could just touch the glass gently and the vibration stopped....real aggravating to say the least. Sure would be nice to find a good after market set.....May have to look into these in this thread.

jkpuma 01-15-2013 08:25 AM

Well. I just ordered mine. Will see what happens and let all know.

Update. I dont know how to post pics on here, but I got the mirrors put on this weekend. It took about 20 minutes on each door. Very easy to do. They look great. Drove down the road for a test run. They do not shake or vibrate. I would highly recommend to anyone. I am very pleased!

Sarge261 01-21-2013 11:56 AM

With all the good reviews I think I may order a set as well, just to confirm these are plug and play correct?

Sarge

MoJoWales 01-21-2013 01:47 PM

Jkpuma, congratulations on the upgrade.
Cheap replacement mirrors may have stigmatized people in the past, but these are the best mirrors I've had on a personal vehicle. These are not those vibrating, lucky to stay together, to-be-found on repaired used car lot vehicles.
I hope you're as satisfied as I am with mine. Please give an update or two regarding your experience down the road to help out other members.

Sarge261, complete plug and play. Comes out of the box with the square plug, and has adapters for the round. No modifications necessary on my 05.

I looked at a set on a 2013 SD today. Very little difference. Just as sturdy! Amazing how much more vision you have with these.

Punisher29073 01-21-2013 06:59 PM

How bout those old mirrors and the pigtail you didnt use? And some pics?

Ryan

SuperDutyScaler 01-21-2013 07:42 PM

my 2004 tow mirrors shake sometimes going down the road, these are 3/4 and 1 ton trucks....

jkpuma 01-22-2013 07:25 PM

Punisher....sent you a pm

Sarge261 01-23-2013 07:54 AM

I ordered a set last night, should be here by the end of the week and then I will send the caps out to the painter and install them. I thought that price was for 1 thats why I waited, I should have read that was for the pair.

I will let everyone know how it goes.

4mcrue 01-23-2013 08:43 AM

I want a pair of the mirrors, but I want the amber lens. Anyone have any other info on that?

farmall99 01-23-2013 09:22 AM

For what its worth, I ordered some manual 08 mirrors from parts train that didn't have any turn signals in them. Went to the ford dealer and ordered a set of lenses that snapped right in place like a factory mirror would.

Sarge261 01-23-2013 12:41 PM

I wonder if a set of Recon lenses would fit in the mirrors I just ordered. The clear doesnt really go with the theme of my truck.

Sarge

jkpuma 01-23-2013 01:15 PM

I just got off the phone with the Ford dealer. Ordered a set of amber lenses for mine. I will have them tomorrow and I will let you guys know if they fit.

Sarge, it looks like they will fit. Somebody on one of the fourms said they would, I think. Cant remember where I saw it.

Sarge261 01-24-2013 07:13 AM

Thanks for the update

mstiles19 01-24-2013 12:39 PM

subscribed. I had the OEM 08 mirrors on my old truck and I loved them, I also bought them from ford before they made them obserdly expensive. It was funny i think i paid 450 dollars for them from ford in 2008. Stupid me, when I traded in my old truck i didnt pull off those mirrors. I am very interested in these, but would only get them if the smoked lenses fit, the clear would look pretty bad on my truck...LOL

Sarge261 01-24-2013 01:04 PM

I will let you know,

Tracking number says they are on the truck out for delivery today, so when they get here I will look at them to see how the lights go in...or of they come out.

Thanks,

Sarge

jkpuma 01-24-2013 01:37 PM

Watch this video. Shows how to take the lens off.

ChrisAU 01-24-2013 02:42 PM

Hmm I'm interested in this, love that they come with paint-to-match caps.

Ya. Gives you two different options in case the wife wants a change. Lol!

Wow! Thanks Tony. I have been telling everyone about them. Great product and great service!

jkpuma 01-24-2013 05:23 PM

The Ford Factory amber lens from the dealer click in perfect!!! Plug and play just like the mirrors.
