Reverse lights problem
My lights don't come on when I put the truck in reverse. I have to hit the right "spot" on the column gear selector for them to come on. Meaning, the truck will be in reverse with no lights on. If I jiggle the gear selector they'll sometimes come on. I failed my inspection but have one month to fix this problem. Is there a switch or something I can change out? The reverse lights do work, so there is no fuse broken or anything. 351W/C6 F-250. Thanks guys.

I changed my switch out last year, and other than having a terrible time with the electrical connector, it was a piece of cake. I was able to source a NOS switch from Green Sales. |
Sorry. It's an 86

Ditto on the switch. You might try adjusting it first. But, odds are a new one is needed. Not to hard to change out, Was on the side of my 86 F250 C-6 trans.

I just replaced this 2 days ago. 3 bolts. The hardest part was removing cable housing. part about 30 dollars. When replacing, put truck in neutral. You will need to put a drill bit end (not sure which one, I used a dart, prob not best tool), to line up the three holes.
FYI, I had exact same back up light issue, and they now work great. |
Actually, if the lights do come on when you nudge the shifter close to reverse, it sounds like it's just out of adjustment.
